Florida State QB considering transferring to Kentucky?

According to the Palm Beach Post, Florida State quarterback Clint Trickett is transferring and considering Kentucky as a possible destination, along with West Virginia and South Florida.

Tricket has completed his Bachelors degree and would be able to play immediately, with two years of eligibility remaining. The transfer likely means that Trickett lost the Seminoles’ QB battle and is looking for playing time elsewhere. Last season, he was EJ Manuel’s backup, and completed 22 of 34 passes for 272 yards with no touchdowns in eight games. In 2011, Trickett went 44-72 for 675 yards and seven touchdowns.

Kentucky’s pretty stocked at the quarterback position, but is there room for one more? Stay tuned…

Thanks KSR. Hope this does not ruin our chances with Barker. Somethings are better left unreported.

Our Cats are looking for stability, leadership and loyalty in this transition period. If Trickett came to UK I feel it undermine all of those goals. Just a thought from an old basketball guy who’s trying to get on board with all this new energy about football.

    1. Already has his bachelor’s degree, and eligible to play immediately, which means he has 1 year of eligibility left. No effect on Barker whatsoever. Although I hope that you’re being sarcastic and not just too lazy to read all 6 sentences

    1. why would it ruin chances with Barker anyway? They would only be here together for 1 year.

But why not? UK could make a good living recruiting Ohio and Florida, and picking up some transfers from top-shelf BCS schools to fill out the roster like Iowa State or UNLV does in basketball

    7. Ironic that you said that since you didn’t read enough to know he has TWO years of eligibility remaining.

He would have one year with Barker on the roster, as Barker won’t be a freshman till the 2014 season. Anyway, we don’t need this guy.

Watched him last year, when FSU’s starting QB went down. He has a cool name and roguish good looks. Unfortunately, he kind of sucks.

5, 7: Dead serious. Why do you all think that we are not hearing about any other QB recruits other than Barker? Gillins is interested but the staff is not giving him a committable offer until Barker makes his decision. They don’t want Barker thinking anything other than that he is the number 1 target. 7 maybe you are the one that needs to learn to read. KSR just has a habit of reporting news that could potential affect recruiting when maybe they should hold off. Being the first to report might be best for hits but it is not always best for the programs.

UK is pretty full at QB.. However- I’ve seen Trickett play a few times… If he came to UK he would make a very strong case for the starting job. He has a lot of the tools necessary to be a good quarterback.

Trickett weighs about 100 pounds. The SEC will destroy him.

Why would he come here and why would we want him? We already have 3 QBs fighting for the job. Why would he take a chance to be a back-up when that’s exactly why he’s leaving FS? This story is absurd.

Wonder if FSU has some decent wide receivers they could send us. That’s been our real problem for years.

32- Along with innumerable dropped passes, missed tackles have completed our team’s identity over the past several decades.

Stoops, et al, are bringing incredible optimism and energy to a fanbase that has hungered for REAL football since the 1950’s.

Don’t know if this kid brings enough to the table for us to bring him into the fold. It will be interesting to hear the coaching staff’s response.

This guy is pretty good. Skinny and cant gain weight, but smart qb and very accurate arm. He would very easily be in the hunt for the starting job if he came here.

#7 graduation has nothing to dp with eligiblity. You have 5 years from the first day you enroll to complete 4 years playing time. My question is why would UK want a guy who jumps ship because of playing time. This makes me think Coach Stoops and staff are not as confident in Whitlow as we have been led to believe. As far as being skinny and unable to take the pounding of the SEC, everybody takes a pounding. That statement comes from someone who mhas never been on the field of a D-1 football game.

This kid is actually very skilled. Great pop on the ball when he throws, son of a coach so IQ on the field is very high and he is very accurate. He is actually closer to 6’2-190 now so he isnt as “small” as people think… and he is tough as nails. He runs a 4.6-40, Benches 285lbs, Squats 385lbs, his shuttle is 4 seconds flat and has a 38inch vertical…What I like is that he is a coaches son…in the Air Raid your QB has to be literally a “coach on the field”. And as far as the beating goes, thats part of our offense, getting the ball out quick so you dont have to take a beating. And many times when our WR’s drop balls they arent well thrown to begin with, whether they are high/low or thrown behind them. This kid is worth a scholly. He could come in and compete immediately based on the spring game.

Really get serious reporting potential recruits doesn’t effect anyone elses thoughts…this story isn’t going to raise a eyebrow on Barker…and just because he says he is interested in UK doesn’t mean it is true….let stuff pan out before you panic and start thinking and saying stuff like confidence in other qb’s geee….

Trickett found out he had has celiac disease. That causes an inability to process foods and absorb calories if you eat bread/gluten. Apparently he was eating 4500 calories a day as a Freshman and never gained a pound. Now he’s gluten free and getting bigger.

As an earlier poster mentioned, he is a talented QB, but his lack of size and strength kept him off the field at FSU. He is very poised and accurate and now that he’s gained 20 pounds, I imagine his arm strength has improved significantly.

Having said that, I’m not sure the upside is enough to risk losing Barker.
