FINAL: UK 69, Delaware 62

The Cats have beaten Elena Delle Donne to advance to the Elite Eight after wearing down the Blue Hens through stifling defensive pressure. Jennifer O’Neill was the MVP for the Hoops squad, scoring 19 points, but A’dia Mathies had a strong game as well, scoring 16 points and nine rebounds, enough to move her past 2,000 points in her career. Mathies is the second woman and only the fifth player male or female to ever achieve that milestone. For Delaware, Delle Donne scored 33 points (11-11 free throw shooting) and 9 rebounds, and although her teammates stepped up in the second half to help her carry the load, it wasn’t enough. Wilder will be by shortly with the recap. The Hoops will face the winner of UCONN-Maryland next.

My wife is not a big sports fan but I told her last week that Delaware had a player with the best name ever and she said what is it and I said Elena Delle Donne and she said, I don’t get it. I just love the way the name sounds for some reason. She is also nice to look at. To me, there is nothing better than a really good looking woman who plays sports or talks sports.

Congrats KSR on a great live blog! Boo to ESPN for the wall-to-wall coverage of “Delta Dawn.” Were you watching the same game we were? The Cats won!

UCLA hires Steve Alford for new HC. That sounds like a big ole win/win for both of them. I am sure he will do a better job of recruiting than Howland and probably have them back on a bigger stage within 2-3 yrs.

#ll and who was always calling out UK for fouling. Although one that was holding was a foul for sure. She seemed not to want UK to win game to me.

    13. bil…hadn’t thought about that myself but could make some good sense. Not sure how transferable those skills are, but I used to think about Pat Summit possibly coaching men’s team.

UK men could have used a couple of women players who can shoot three point shots.

    # 2 she almost beat UK by herself. Great player for a woman. Appreciate her for how good she really is. Plays like a man.

Donne is headed for the coaching ranks b4 her career in BB is over.
The woman can get to the basket and finish.
She also guides her teammates as you saw if you watched the entire game.

Stat to watch id Uconn beats the Terps in the UK vs Uconn rematch

UK game they called around 20 fouls on UK giving Delaware 19 points from the charity stripe

Uconn game is almost at halftime and they have yet to a single foul on Uconn

If you can not beat UK use your refs to even the playing field.

#22 I agree with you. Delle Donne is as fine a basketball player as I have seen. At 6’5″ she plays like a 5’9″ guard, can bring the ball up the court, has a great drop-step, a fine jump shot and terrific moves. That all said, fortunately Delaware had little else than Donne and was defeated by a far superior UK team. I like Donne more than Griner for her terrific all around play but and very happy to watch the UK womens team.
