You may remember, a couple months ago everyone was up in arms about the potential expansion of the NCAA tournament. At the end of the day, though, the NCAA decided to expand to 68 teams instead of the potentially disastrous 96 (though look for that to happen within the decade.) While the details weren’t fully decided upon at the time, most people thought that it was the best possible outcome of a touchy situation. Well, the decision has been made and those people were right. While it’s no 64 team tournament, it’s expansion in the best possible way.
The NCAA tournament will now have a portion called the ‘First Four,’ where the final four at large teams will play off against the final four automatic qualifiers. Honestly, I think this is a pretty good idea. It will add some excitement to the early rounds by pitting seemingly closely seeded teams against each other, and it will help to end some of the debate over who should make the tournament.
