My how times have changed. Jody Demling of the Courier Journal has a great piece in which he interviews a number of 2011 and 2012 recruits about their college choices. The overaching theme is clear, as 2011 recruit Ryan Boatright says, “everybody wants to go to Kentucky.” As Calipari and company recruit in 2011 and beyond, the question is not which player can they convince to come to Lexington, but which one they want out of the group. Demling highlights a few players who wish they would hear more from Kentucky, but have seen interest slack off as other targets have taken precedent. The reason is simple. Calipari sends players to the NBA and the kids want to go there as soon as possible. Thus Kentucky and Calipari are the place to go and no school in America is hotter on the recruiting market.
And to think, just a couple of years ago we were contemplating a GJ Vilarino-Konner Tucker PG rotation for the future. My how times change
