Despite bringing in what many are calling the number one recruiting class in the land, some Cat fans are still worried that Cal’s class won’t be as up to snuff as its predecessors. The loss of five superstar underclassmen, Anthony Bennett and Mark Lyons have some reaching for the panic button, which to me, is a sure as sign as any that in these glory days, we are spoiled rotten. But, have no fear, Evan Daniels told Larry Vaught the Cats are doing just fine, thanks in large part to the man with the fade, Nerlens Noel:
“Nerlens is definitely that guy they needed the most,” Daniels said. “They desperately needed his defensive presence. Willie is a great talent and will be a great player down the road, but Nerlens is ready to be that guy now. He will make an immediate major impact on the defensive end.
“Archie and Alex will take care of the scoring. That’s why (UCLA spring signee) Shabazz (Muhammad) was not as important as Noel. Nerlens can dominate without scoring a point and that translates nicely into the college game. He is the No. 1 player in the country and the most dominant defensive player in the country. He is getting better offensively, too. He has a nice touch and has the tools to be good.”
So, sit back, relax, and let Cal fill in the roster with some much-needed depth, whether it be Julius Mays or Amile Jefferson. He hasn’t let us down yet.
