The score of the Florida game doesn’t matter so forget about it. We’ll just say we lost on a last second hail mary – yeah, that feels better. Now, the Cats are 3-1 and still have plenty of opportunities to finish strong in the SEC. This week ESPN’s Chris Low has Kentucky at the #8 spot in his power rankings. While that’s not exactly where we want UK to be right now, Kentucky has all four lower ranked teams (Vandy, Georgia, Tennessee, Ole Miss) on the remaining schedule. If Kentucky can win three of those four (Tennessee is awful, by the way), we’re looking at a potentially great season.
SEC Week 5 Power Rankings:
6. South Carolina
7. Mississippi State
8. Kentucky – For the 24th straight time, the Wildcats (3-1, 0-1) were a loser to Florida. The most disappointing part about the game for the Wildcats was that they wilted in the fourth quarter, and they also did the things to hurt themselves that they hadn’t previously done this season — like turn the football over. This is still a dangerous team that will be heard from this season, although the game at Ole Miss this weekend is critical.
12. Ole Miss
Also, Chris Matthews was mentioned as an Outstanding Performance by the SEC for his 114 yards and two touchdowns against Trey Burton and his friends.
