ESPN2 picks up the Cats and Tee Martin gets paid

the deuce espn2 Pictures, Images and Photos

Apparently there’s some bad weather of some sort sweeping the country (heard anything about this?) and, as luck would have it, that might just work out for you quite nicely.  The Oklahoma-Baylor game has been cancelled (jeers), which now pushes your beloved Cats onto ESPN2, as well as ESPNU.  You’ll still get Mark Gottfried on both telecasts (it’s amazing that he can be in two places at once), but it should certainly make those of you without ESPNU quite happy.  Unless you don’t have ESPN2 either.

In completely unrelated news, Brett Dawson of the Courier-Journal released Tee Martin’s new contract parameters today.  Martin’s new deal will run through December 31, 2014 (not that it matters, he’ll have an extension or new job by then) and increases his base pay from $160,000 to $185,000.  In a year, it increases to $205,000.  If you don’t realize what a relative bargain that is, consider that Joker Phillips ($323k), Steve Brown ($315k), Randy Sanders ($250k) and Steve Ortmayer ($243k) all made more as assistants in 2009, which is the last year I could find accurate data. He’s still buying drinks though.

Don’t forget to stop by tonight for the Live Blog at 6:30. It’s a road game, so there won’t be any spoilers 10 seconds before it plays out live.

Sweet. Definitely looking forward to watching the game on TV.

  2. Joker’s 323k has to be just the base before coach’s shows, etc., no?

    Joker’s $323k = salary in 2009 as an assistant

T martin will someday run the show,
not to knock Joker. I just think T would be a better fit.

Ortmayer made $243K? That totals about $24K for each punt we had blocked in his final year as the specail teams coordinator. Nice work if you can get it. I still think he called the “rugby” punt against Pitt in the bowl game this year.

I posted that UK should pay Tee Martin whatever it took to keep him. They are still not paying him enough, they got a bargain!

Tee martin is a receivers coach. Of course he isnt going to make as much as a head coach in waiting, the offensive coordinator and the defensive coordinator. Now i know he is worth every penny, but you cant just throw all coaches in a group and call them assistants like all assistants have the same job description and should have similar pay. Why dont you compare his salary with chuck smith, or the running backs coach, or o line or d line coach. Im sure he is paid more than all of them…

To put salaries in further perspective, Texas new assistant coaches are ALL paid in the $400K-600K range. That’s what happens when you have a stadium seating 102,000, suites throughout the stadium, fans paying top dollar and even seat licences for the new north end zone expansion and booster support in the millions.

and we want to know why our educational and healthcare systems are ranked on the very low end in industrial countries? Assistant Football coaches get paid more than most Doctors and 5 to 10 times more than Teachers. Ridiculous
