ESPN Thinks LSU Can Challenge for SEC Basketball Title

There have been multiple posts about LSU basketball over on this week. All three posts had the same sort of story.

The writers are interested in seeing this young, talented LSU team and they think they can challenge Kentucky for the SEC title. Now, while I think LSU lacks the interior size and talent to truly challenge for the SEC title, there will be an uptick in talent this year not only in Baton Rouge, but across the conference as a whole.

Dick Vitale talked a lot about LSU’s trio of Ben Simmons, Antonio Blakeney and Brandon Sampson, but did end his story with this:

The SEC has a lot of young talent coming in. When you look at Simmons, Blakeney and Sampson, and Skal Labissiere, Isaiah Briscoe and Jamal Murray of Kentucky, and Malik Newman of Mississippi State, there is excitement galore.

My question to you is simple. Are you excited for the uptick in talent across the conference?

VERY excited! Don’t mind losing a few during the season if it can make us better.

Our conference used to be the 3rd-4th best in the NCAA and we need to be there again ASAP…I think we are on the way and it’s great!

LSU will without a doubt be the 2nd most talented team in the league as they were last season However, you would have to rank them #14 in the league in coaching. Johnny Jones was simply awful losing to some really bad teams. Their last 2 games in the SEC and NCAA tourneys were a clinic in how not to coach. .

Definitely looking forward to a higher level of competition in the SEC this year. It will better prepare us for March & will also shut up the idiots who say every year that Kentucky plays nothing but cupcakes from January until the tourney starts.

as long as Johnny Jones is at the helm, LSU will struggle to win the big game. Had the Cats beat last year at home – couldn’t close. Up 16 points or something like that to NCST in the tourney with 8 minutes left and blew it… He is mediocre at best. They have great talent this year, but he is truly a poor coach.

All the uptick in talent means is that teams like LSU will have a better shot at pulling out an upset of UK when they get all fired up to do so. Those teams will still find a way to lose to several of the bad teams on their schedule.
