ESPN: Kyle Wiltjer’s transfer is the SEC’s third biggest offseason storyline

Yup, it’s definitely the offseason. With basketball months away, and football season all-but-here, it’s pretty much just tumbleweeds on the basketball front in the SEC. Case in point: Kyle Wiltjer transferring to Gonzaga is the conference’s third biggest offseason storyline, according to ESPN’s Myron Medcalf.

Here’s the Worldwide Leader with more:

3. Kyle Wiltjer leaves Kentucky: John Calipari assembled one of the greatest recruiting classes in NCAA history. Perhaps you’ve heard about it. Julius Randle is one of six McDonald’s All Americans who will join UK in 2013-14. There’s plenty of talent in Lexington, enough to place the Wildcats atop many lists of national-title favorites. But leadership and experience could be concerns — much like they were in 2012-13 — with Wiltjer transferring to Gonzaga. The process began with a pair of letters from both Calipari and Wiltjer that conveyed some uncertainty about the Canadian’s future. But when he officially announced his decision last month, Kentucky lost a player who can stretch the floor (10.2 PPG, 37 percent from beyond the arc in 2012-13) and its only link to the 2011-12 national championship squad. The Cats still have more talent than any other team in college basketball without him. But inexperience could be a problem again.

Marshall Henderson’s undying love for anything snortable came in at No. 1, with the revolving door that is the Tennessee basketball program taking up the 2 spot. You can check out the full 1-5 HERE, if that’s your thing.

I really feel he just didn’t want to have to work and compete against the freshmen coming in. He would have been part of another special team, now he will be the best player in a shit league in 2014.

    The Kentucky Effect.

The funny thing is, the only time Kyle will be in a “story” the rest of his college career, is when someone is talking about his first 2 years at UK. Gonzaga is about as relevant in college BB as IU…and their conference is even less relevant.

    4) You really think he’s a turncoat because he transferred to another school in hopes of creating a better situation for himself? Take the blinders off. This is a kid’s life.

4 – if he went to Duke, U of L, etc. he’d be a turncoat. Gonzaga is not being a turncoat…I wish he had stayed but he’s not a turncoat.

I planned on still liking him and following his career but I really am over it. I hadn’t even thought about him until this little story.

I don’t think any more of Kyle Wiltjer now that he’s transferred than I did of Michael Bradley after he got this championship ring in 1998 and then transferred to Villanova because, whine, whine, he didn’t get enough playing time.
