ESPN gets to know ‘Operation Win’

ESPN’s SEC blogger Chris Low spent some time with the football Cats recently as part of his conference previews this spring. His page at TWWL is full of tidbits and interviews with players and coaches and is a good way to kill some time in between checking on what people don’t know about Marquis Teague. You can find all the stuff about the Cats here, but just to get you in the mood, here are some snippets from Low’s time with Kentucky:

Coach Phillips on getting the program to the next level:

“It will be difficult to get there,” [Phillips] said. “But it was difficult to get to where we are now. It’s going to be difficult to climb these next couple of steps. We felt like we had to, and this is something Rich left us with, but we felt like we had to up the intensity level a little more, demand a little bit more.”

Mike Hartline on the new attitude around the program:

“I don’t think a lot has changed with coach Phillips and how the program is run, but there is a whole new intensity and atmosphere to Kentucky football. We’re putting that extra time in and working a little more. That’s how you go from that seven-win season to that 10-win season like we should have had last year.”

The Randall Cobb on himself as a football player:

“I’ve just always loved the game,” Cobb said. “I don’t care where you put me. If you want to put me on defense, I’d love it. The biggest thing is that I love the game so much that I’m just going to play with so much heart. I’m going to do whatever I can to get to the end zone, whether that means breaking a tackle or out-running a guy. And if I have to throw it, so be it.

And here’s Cobb talking to 2004 WSOP Main Event Champion Greg Raymer ESPN’s Low about the Cats:
