Once again, Kentucky basketball fans have entered the perilous realm of ESPN SEC basketball coverage. Don’t get me wrong. I am as pleased as the next Cat fan to see the end of Big Blue Network coverage which seemed to people on this end of the state (West Side Boyee!) to be a mythical anomaly in the manner of Big Foot that is believed to exist, but is never seen by actual people. For those who allege that these broadcasts do exist, the games are brought to you by the riveting Rob Bromley and the always insightful Martin Newton. (Shouldn’t nepotism end once the family member with the political power is gone?) Nevertheless, it is always with great dread that I prepare for one of Kentucky’s games to follow a Big Ten foul fest that has virtually no chance of ending in time for the Cats’ tip-off. Tonight, I notice that we have two of the Big Ten’s great hacking favorites, Wisconsin and Minnesota. I am predicting that this game goes to double overtime before the Badgers ultimately pull out a 45 to 40 victory. And that’s just in team fouls. Anyway, we should get the live feed from Lexington just about in time to see the final possession of the first half. Which, of course, will allow us to see the half time show. I have not seen the schedule, but I have heard that it wil be live from a tent outside of Cameron Indoor. (They are really neglecting Cameron Outdoor these days). I think the show will consist of a pep rally led by Mike Patrick and Dickie V. followed by a reading of some of JJ’s poetry which I am told is the greatest since Sylvia Plath, Maya Angelou and Dr. Seuss. Finally, it will end with Coach K, who is, of course, a leader who happens to coach basketball, and Wojo performing a stirring rendition of Islands in the Stream. I am not sure how this turned into yet another in a long line of sarcastic anti-Duke blogs. Maybe my keyboard is set on autoblog, or maybe I am just a jerk. Anyway, have those radios ready at 9:00 eastern.
