Hold on for a second, I’m not done staring at this picture…
Okay, let’s regroup. Try not to get distracted. Tonight’s news and views are brought to you by Erin Andrews for 2 reasons:
1) Man law requires that when an opportunity arises to post a picture of Erin Andrews on the interwebs, you do it. No questions asked.
2) Erin is celebrating her 35th birthday on Saturday
Erin started out as the daughter of 6-time Emmy Award winning journalist Steve Andrews. The family moved to Tampa, FL from Maine when Andrews was younger and that move to the Sunshine State paved the way for a career that men all across America are thankful for. From there she then went on to the University of Florida where she was a member of the Dance Team until her graduation in 2000. Although its well known that Erin is a Florida alumni, there’s still a feeling of crippling disappointment that comes over me every time she references her days in Gainesville. No amount of sexy sideline journalism can make up for the fatal flaw of being a part of Gator Nation, at least not until we beat them in football.
Erin made a name for herself as a fixture on ESPN’s College Gameday after a half decade of reporting on anything from the Scripp’s National Spelling Bee to the Little League World Series, and quickly rose up the heirarchy at the network as the go-to sideline reporter for most big sporting events and even hosting the first hour of College Gameday for 2 years. Let me say that sideline reporters are without a doubt the most useless part of any particular sports broadcast, mainly because they’ve yet to figure out that the questions they’ve been asking coaches after chasing them down on the way to the locker rooms at halftime ALWAYS yield the same answers (unless of course they just ask a bad question). While Erin’s looks attracted a lot of attention, her knowledge of the sports she was covering and her ability to go beyond the “What do you guys plan to do in the 2nd half?” line of questioning was a refreshing change of pace. Now, Erin works for Fox Sports covering all the major sporting events on FOX and co-hosting Fox’s College Football show. This to go along with her numerous endorsements and and recent movie appearances, it seems like she has this whole life thing figured out. Sorry to be the downer here, but Erin is dating Los Angeles Kings Center Jarret Stoll, who’s career achievements of winning the 2012 Stanley Cup and being featured on an episode of MTV Cribs pale in comparison to the fact that he managed to pull Erin freakin’ Andrews! Bravo sir, the entire male population of the world hates you, but respects you. Happy Birthday Erin!
Take one more second to look at her again before going forward…
No, I do not know where Andrew Wiggins is going to school this fall. I wish I did, but I don’t. Only one things for sure, and that is that Andrew definitely didn’t commit to North Carolina today like some on the Tar Heel sites were claiming. This makes them 0-for-2 on their Wiggins commitment predictions. Carry on.
Good news for ‘Cats fans from the NCAA today. Yeah I was surprised they did something right too. Today, the NCAA approved a rule allowing the start of basketball practice to be pushed back 2 weeks to September 27th. Although teams are still only allowed 30 sanctioned practices before the start of the season, getting the guys in the gym together for an extra 2 weeks allows for a more thorough understanding of the roster by the coaches before the opening games and gives the players an extra 2 weeks to individually work on whatever the coach tells them they need to improve on. Once again, this will not affect the date of Big Blue Madness, which will still be October 18th. I may just go start camping out now.
It seems as though Calipari isn’t ready to give up on the recruitment of 2014 Center Jahlil Okafor, who is the #2 ranked player in the class and the #1 Center. Okafor and fellow Top 10 recruit Tyus Jones have made it very clear that they want to play together in college and while some have been saying Duke is the leader for their services at this point, Jason Jordan of Julius Randle recruiting news fame stated today that Kentucky was making their move on Okafor and Jahlil and Coach Calipari had “a great conversation” last night. Jahlil also commented on his close relationship with Karl Towns Jr. and said that competition for playing time is more of an attraction then a deterrent to come to Lexington. Many have claimed that UK would be out of the running because Coach Cal had made PG Emmanuel Mudiay, the #1 ranked player in the class, his top priority for 2014. Now, it seems that either Cal can see Mudiay and Tyus Jones together on the court ala Wall and Bledsoe, taking Jones at the point over Mudiay, or he intends on breaking up the guy-love between Okafor and Jones.
Jahlil Okafor (@jahprobound) tells me that he had “a great conversation” with John Calipari tonight. Wildcats making their move.

Jahlil Okafor (@jahprobound) has always maintained to me that he’s close w/ K. Towns & comp for PT is more an attraction than a deterrent.

All right guys, time to go plan and rest for a day of debauchery around the Bluegrass State, particularly at Churchill Downs. Kristen Geil and I will be with you tomorrow to attempt to hold you over until Derby time arrives. Follow me on Twitter @WillTottenKSR if you want to talk about the pro’s and con’s of pockets with zippers, and occasionally sports. And if anyone sees Erin Andrews at Churchill Downs tomorrow, tell her I still love her and I would gladly take her back.
