Erik Daniels wishes Mr. Keightly a Happy Birthday

I took the picture above Friday night during Lipscomb’s shoot around. For those of you who have never noticed this, it’s on the floor on the sideline right in front of UK’s bench where longtime equipment manager, Bill Keightly, sat for every game.

Bill Keightly, better known as “Mr. Wildcat”, passed away in 2008. He would’ve celebrated his 86th birthday today.  As the Bill Keightly report at the top left of the blog states, he is “Never to be forgotten.”

Keightly was beloved by players, coaches, and fans. Today Erik Daniels took to twitter to wish his old buddy a Happy Birthday.

Keightly’s life was celebrated at a Memorial Service in Rupp Arena in 2008. Here is the video that was played.

Happy Birthday Mr. Wildcat!

John, I was first team All-State. I can put the ball anywhere I want to. I'll make it rain out here.

I had the pleasure to meat Mr. Wildcat twice. The first was at the open house at the Craft Center. The second was at a UK basketball game and he called me by my name. With all the people he meets everyday, he remembered me, whom he met only twice. Truely one of a kind.

sec tournament, Atlanta, lost first game . Tubby and the boys headed back home. Mr. Keightly, brother in law and myself ran into each other in the lounge at the Hyatt. The bar closed, beer from the hotel room came down stairs and we talked to 2am about everything Ky basketball. He was always one of the guys. Happy Birthday Mr. Keightly!! one of my best SEC tournament memories.

He was one of a kind……special guy to the program……but in watching the video, I must admit to cringing everytime it showed Billy Gillespie, I believe all video and audio references to him ever being part of our program should be banned from the airwaves…..my god how did Mitch B let that happen ???

I can only imagine how happy he would have been when we beat ul in the Final Four. If you’ll recall, he said he could never truly celebrate Christmas until after we beat the cards.

    Gone, but certainly not forgotten.

Poor Bill, the Gillespie era was enough to kill a lot of people, we should wear the black uniforms again this weekend

It would be more respectful if you spelled his name correct. RIP Bill Keightley.
