He should have been tossed after that meltdown. He was yelling while Knight was attempting to shoot free throws. Go back to Mississippi and lather yourself up with Renardo Sidney’s gravy sweat.

I think its great that Jon Voight has added NCAA officiating to his acting resume, nice to see him make a cameo @40 second mark

I think the refs let him say his piece (and keep on saying his piece) because they knew he had a valid, correct point.

Also, the video is great. Super quality.

Here’s to more links from Vimeo. Much better quality than YouTube. Of course, “Hullo, Vimeo Viewers” just doesn’t have the same ring to it.

BTW – Stansbury is an awesome rival SEC coach. Great X’s and O’s guy, his teams play hard and he is energetic and animated. Love this guy!

7 – “valid, correct point”…was it as valid and correct as the no-call in the TN-GA game where Williams beheaded Chris Barnes and wasn’t called for a foul?

Macon- You receive +100 Internets for also liking Vimeo and using the word “alliteration”. You also get an additional 1,000,000 Internets for saying “piece” instead of “peace”. Kudos, kid! You’re goin’ places!

#13-that wasn’t even a foul, plus Barnes pulled Big Brian’s arm down and he still made the shot.

#14-I try. It’s that Transy education. I’m not Transy hot, though.

    7. Knight was clearly shooting. It was good anticipation to the foul. I don’t see his point at all.

  17. Cal
    2:17 pm February 16, 2011 Permalink

16 – ha ha, yeah okay, it wasn’t a foul. the only reason he ‘pulled his arm down’ is bc Williams was on his back and knocked him down. He grabbed his arm as he was falling due to being fouled! I’m guessing you also think there wasn’t a lane violation there, even though Williams never left the paint. Oh, I know…he didn’t gain any advantage by being in the paint, right? Yeah, the advantage was being on someone’s back and knocking them over to make the shot.

I’m glad they called this. I think any foul committed in the last minute of a half should be given free throws and the amount of free throws should be derived from where the ballhandler is standing. I.E. a foul at the end of a game to prevent a three would be nullified, because you give them three free throws.

Yeah, EVERY ball player tries to pass with 1.1 seconds. There is NO such thing as a last second shot. It has always been called a last “second pass”. because when the time is on the line and points are needed, a smart basketball player will ALWAYS shoot it.

only reason why Jones got Knight’s shot was the fact that Knight got HAMMERED on that play. I swear logic and rationality is lost in today’s time. screw it, no need to use logic anymore.

  20. macon_volfan
    2:21 pm February 16, 2011 Permalink

Not a foul. Watched it a thousand times. Barnes wasn’t making an attempt at the ball just pushing back into Williams. When whoever took the shot, doesn’t that reset the 3 seconds, or when it hits the rim? Not clear on that rule, sorry.

But if you go back to the thread on this site about that shot, many dyed-in-the-wool UK fans agree with that I’m saying. No foul–or at least a good no call.

What happened last night WAS a foul, it just wasn’t a shooting foul. If it was a shooting foul, I hate that players (of any team) put up weak sauce crap like for the sole purpose of getting a shooting foul called. That’s not in the spirit of the game.

I missed the definition of “Transy hot”. Can someone explain?

  22. macon_volfan
    2:25 pm February 16, 2011 Permalink

#20-he started the ‘shot’ with 2.3 seconds left. That leaves time for a pass. I think he ‘shot’ the ball because he knew he was being fouled. That might be a ‘smart, heady play’ but I don’t agree with it.

#22–Girls that appear hot at Transy, but if they were at a big school (like UK, UT, etc) would be just cute or normal. I prefer the cute myself, so Transy was a perfect school for me.

#21 I would argue that intentionally fouling when not in the bonus is “not in the spirit of the game” either. So, fling it!

    21. Fouling twice with less than 5 seconds on the clock isn’t within the spirit of the game either though.

What he was upset with was he had been made a fool out of his own strategy. Since they had two fouls to give he told them to foul, to run down the clock, to leave less time to get a shot. He was applauding the last foul. The problem was he wasn’t smart enough to say be certain they aren’t shooting when you foul. So he is applauding his brillance, until what the shot. Therefore he had to cover his rear by blaming the refs, of course he only made it worse.
Even if it hadn’t been a shot, it should have been an intentional foul, it was hard, and intentional. But even the announcers, which have been pro KY, called it a shot, and praised Knight for being alert, before the refs made up their mind.

  33. Skinman
    3:20 pm February 16, 2011 Permalink

As soon as the shot goes up, the 3 second count goes off until the offense gains control of the rebound and then it goes on again. It was a smart play by Knight and a stupid play by the MSU and stupid call by Stansbury. That is why he was pissed because he knew he screwed up.

  43. Wildcat Singularity

@volfan.. Williams fouled, traveled, committed a lane violation and I’m pretty sure punched a baby on that last second shot. My theory is that he did so much wrong at the same time, that the refs just figured “well hell, that must be what they call a crab dribble” and let it all slide.

And I know it’s a cheap shot, but I HAVE to take it – A Tennessee fan talking about the “spirit of the game”? :- \
