The FCS Samford Bulldogs were dominated from the get-go, especially in the trenches. The offensive line led by Senior Captains Larry Warford and Matt Smith drove Samford off the line of scrimmage play-after-play, opening huge holes for the running backs. The Cats finished with 342 rushing yards and 2 rushing Touchdowns. Raymond Sanders has 1,000 career rushing yards after logging 130 tonight, many of them coming from big plays . Jalen Whitlow had a hell of a 20 yard touchdown run, sneaking the ball past the pylon early in the game. Freshman Dyshawn Mobley wasn’t scared to lower his shoulder and finished with a career high 82 yards.
Joker “took off the gloves” and ran a trick play, throwing a lateral to Offensive Tackle Darrian Miller. They got 5 yards on the bizarre play. I still have no idea what they were trying to accomplish.
The Cats put together a nice drive with less than 2 minutes to go in the half to go up 24-3, but the scoring didn’t stop there. With 30 seconds left Samford QB Andy Smmerlin fumbled the ball after taking a nasty hit. JR defensive lineman Tristian Johnson scooped it at the 25 yard line and ran for his life into the end zone. It happened so fast, yet he moved so slow. It’s always great to see the big guys score.
In Joker’s last game he was carried off of the field by the Seniors. Taylor Wyndham’s idea was easy for all of the Seniors to agree on. Larry Warford said after the game, “We were going to force him on our shoulders, that’s what he means to us, he is so important in our hearts, he loves this program so much and he breathes it. He’s a champion.”
Joker’s comments after the game were moving to see in person. I just posted a video but here are a few highlights:
“I’m numb to all this. I’m pretty numb to all of this. I understand it. But it’s a numbing feeling that you just realize it’s time to go.”
“When somebody asks, what are you going to do? I’m probably going to sleep, get some sleep, first of all.”
“We appreciate all the things that we got to do, okay. We probably wouldn’t have ever taken a trip to Ethiopia to take some of our kids.”
“I didn’t think we had traditions here when I came back, and so we started a lot of traditions, and we started a tradition of getting our seniors up and letting them talk about their experience on the last game here at Kentucky.”
“This is a game of emotion, it is, and you get to see some of those emotions come out when a kid is getting ready to play his last game.”
“I didn’t realize I had packed my black suit. It’s like, it’s not like I’m going to a funeral.”
This is your home, nothing ever hit you today? “What was the girl’s name that left Kansas? Dorothy?“
To end, you need to watch this video that had the whole crew dying laughing after the 1st quarter in the press box. Thanks to the Live Blogger that shared this piece of work.
