Earth Day’s Wednesday News and Views

Matt is lawyerin’ around right now or getting a head start on celebrating the 26th birthday of fellow Matt Jones, Matt Jones, so he won’t be stopping by this evening.  In his place, I’ll be offering you the goodies to make sure you get your Earth Day started right….

 – First, the obvious big story is the online rumors that the brothers Henry will be taking their games to Kansas next year after a few days of will they/won’t they visit and several weeks of speculation of a Lexington destination.  From the day that Calipari was hired as coach of the Cats, it seemed a bit of a long shot that Xavier and CJ would end up at Kentucky, but anxiety grew as the process dragged on and they seemed to be growing on the idea of both remaining Calipari commitments.  But, it looks as though Kentucky fans might have been pinched and awoken from that dream late Tuesday night as the internet chatter seemed to be that the Henry’s will be in Lawrence.

In the interest of being overly optimistic, as of the time this is being written, no major news outlets are confirming this KU commitment, but Carl Henry did tell Zag’s blog that his sons would not be visiting UK.  However, Henry did say that no commitment had yet been made.  Obviously, as news develops out of these rumors, we’ll keep you posted.

 – While Xavier Henry and his brother were the cherry and the sprinkles on top of the Calipari recruting sundae (Cousins was the whipped cream), John Wall remains the most important target of the recruting season.  With no experienced point guard on the roster and with Wall being an absolutely special prospect, it remains imperative that UK land his signature should they want to seriously make a run at the lofty NCAA tourney goals we’ve all so graciously set before them since the Calipari signing.  Wall still plans to visit Miami this weekend after sitting down with Billy Donovan this week and will likely narrow his field to three or four teams Monday.  In the meantime, the point guard from Raleigh will spend his Wednesday visiting with Coach K according to our buddy Bomani Jones.  This thing is really going to get interesting in the next few days (as if it isn’t already).

 – Also, as we noted earlier, Bomani reported that Calipari will visit CJ Leslie, Wall’s teammate and a 2010 power forward.  The 6-8, 205 pounder is rated as a four-star prospect by Rivals and was originally committed to NC State.  He ranks as the site’s 12th best power forward and 51st best overall player.

 – Also, as Coach’s travels continue, Rick Bozich is reporting that Calipari, along with Tom Crean, visited 2010 guard Will Barton today in Baltimore.  Barton is a 6-5, five-star shooting guard ranked as the 8th best at his position and 24th best in the class of 2010 by Rivals.  He has offers from Georgetown, Maryland, Memphis, Pitt, Providence and Virginia.  He is no relation to 1999 KHSAA Sweet Sixteen MVP Will Partin of Ballard….or at least I don’t think so.  Their names just sound alike.

All in all, it looks like things could be getting very interesting in the next few days.  We’ll keep you updated as the news breaks.  Go recycle or something.
