Early Friday Notes

It is late and after a long work day, watching the Keightley service, doing the show and driving to Middlesboro, I am a bit tired. Nevertheless, a few notes done from my phone until we get rolling tomorrow….

(1). I hope you get a chance to watch some of the speeches from the Keightley service. We will have the videos up here at noon tomorrow and you will be able to see what a great event it was in Rupp. People ranging from Joe B to Gillispie to Jeff Sheppard all did a great job and had moving tributes. The star of the show however was Rick Pitino. Coming on after the moving video tribute (which did bring tears to my eyes….pictures to music do it to me everytime), Pitino spoke eloquently about his relationship with Mr. Wildcat and what a wonderful man he was. His speech was genuinely moving and I believe could be a turning point for a lot of UK fans on their relationship with the former coach. He couldn’t have been more gracious and his love for this place was still obvious. I for one had some Pitino thoughts change tonight and I am sure I am not the only one. The whole event was a fitting tribute to a man who will be missed.

(2). In more trivial news, I spoke with the coaches of two UK recruits and one of the recruits himself. There will be more on these guys tomorrow but I will summarize quickly. I spoke with the coach of JUCO big man Josh Harrellson who was optimistic that a release from his LOI was coming and reports late tonight suggest it later came. This means that Josh is free to look at other schools. According to his coach, Harrellson is very interested in UK and they join Ohio State, Iowa state, Missouri and Indiana as top suitors for his services. Josh plans on taking a lot of visits over the next few weeks but the Cats will definitely get one. More on Josh later today.

(3). I also spoke at length with Maurice sutton and his coach this afternoon. Sutton was on his way to San Antonio and spoke about his upcoming visit to Kentucky. He said that he does not yet have an offer but that UK is his top school at this point. His coach said he believes that an offer will be forthcoming soon. The full transcript of my interview with him will be up later.

That’s all for now. More from the Boro when I get to a computer around lunch….
