Drew Yeargin is a sophomore defensive back at the University of the Cumberlands. He does not respect your pass to the tailback. Notes? Podcast?
— We’ve flooded your brain with football talk this week so let’s lead off with a piece of basketball news. Mitch McGary says he’s not sure if he’ll visit Kentucky, Florida, and Maryland. In his blog with ESPN, the five-star recruit wrote, “I still want to go to Kentucky, Maryland and Florida, but I’m not sure that I’ll get to those schools just yet. I’d like to get there, but we’ll just have to see.” He has already visited Michigan, North Carolina, and Duke, and he had an in-home visit with Florida yesterday.
— While you’re watching Sons of Anarchy this evening, Shabazz Muhammad is hosting Coach Cal for an in-home visit tonight. Mama Shabazz has Papa John’s on the menu for her guests. Lock him up, Coach.
— Back to football, sorry. Larry Warford said freshman Darrian Miller could become the best tackle to ever play at Kentucky. Miller has been getting a lot of unexpected minutes in the first two games of his career with Kentucky’s banged up offensive line. Two of those banged up linemen are Matt Smith and Billy Joe Murphy. Neither of the two practiced today but Smith ran some on his bum ankle so that’s a good sign. They’re both questionable for Saturday.
— Randall Cobb’s kickoff return was No. 1 on the Sportscenter’s Top 10 plays from the first weekend of the NFL. It beat out Wes Welker’s 99-yard reception touchdown from Tom Brady for the top spot. That’s what you call making a statement in the NFL. I can’t wait to see what Randall has in store for the Panthers in Week 2. And don’t forget to go vote for Randall for NFL Rookie of the Week.
— The wait is over, my friends, the 2012 University Rankings are out!!! And the University of Kentucky has room to improve. UK is ranked No. 124 among National Universities in the U.S. News and World Report’s rankings. That’s up four spots from its No. 128 ranking in 2011. “Louisville One-Hundred and Sixty-Eighth.”
On today’s podcast, Matt and Mark tell the story of the greatest nerd fight in KSR history…
