Drew Barker’s KSR interview is a must listen for UK football fans

timmons-barker-fogle

Drew Barker was a guest on Kentucky Sports Radio radio this morning and he crushed it, as expected. Barker talked about UK’s 2014 recruiting class and where it stands today, why he chose Kentucky, and what makes the new staff so successful in their first year in Lexington. “They have a swagger,” he said of Mark Stoops and the guys.

Have a listen to Barker’s interview below or listen to today’s podcast in its entirety at TalkRadio1080.com. Here are some of Barker’s quotes that stood out to me while listening to the show from the KSR compound:

— On filling out the 2014 recruiting class… “We’re right in the driver’s seat for some of these guys and we’re going to end up with a great class and it’s going to be really, really exciting to watch. I can’t wait to see it.”

— On UK target Matt Elam… “He is just a beast.”

— On UK target Braxton Berrios… “He’s a player that will play in the slot; he’s a little Wes Welker clone.”

— On the new coaching staff’s mentality… “These coaches aren’t afraid to go head-to-head with the best schools in the country… We have a no backdown mentality and we’re going to stand head to toe on the field and off the field, recruiting, with these big schools.”

— On his thoughts about UK before the Stoops hire… “I wasn’t going to go to Kentucky at all… The old staff, they didn’t recruit me at all.”

Enjoy…

First!!!! It’s one thing to talk a good game but it’s another to play a good game. Big difference between high school ball and college ball. Drew will have to prove it in Commonwealth Stadium with a defense to back him up. Wish him luck and it would be nice to see a really competitive team for UK for a change.

any chance some oregon recruits might want to jump ship and come to uk? chip kelly is gone and they’re on probation for the next 3 years. not just the incoming class, but maybe some of the other guys could transfer and possibly not have to sit a year?

Joker and staff should be kicked in the berries for not recruiting Barker. How does that happen? Why? Previous staff were idiots.

    1. Tex. I was going to say the same thing. Everybody has ‘swag’ before they get into a situation. Let’s hold all this tough man talk and show it on the field. I am glad the youngster is staying in Kentucky but we’ve heard this talk before both in football AND basketball (note this past year)

Prove it on the field and then talk all you want.

Anyone know anything about Javess Blue’s eligibility? Heard that he might not make it? Any word on that? Love the Barker kid! Although he needs to work on the “ya knows” and the “um’s”, like so many others i listen to today. lol.

I tried to give Joker every benefit of the doubt when he was coach, but not recruiting Barker was the STUPIDEST decision since Bill Curry had Time Couch running the option.

Um, #2, Oregon lost one whole scholarship and there is no bowl ban. Why would any recruit be scared to go there, or why would any player leave due to the nonpunishment? Not trying to flame, but that us one of the most laughable “sanctions” the NCAA has handed down.
