Drew Barker picks Kentucky

drewbarkerbanner

Drew Barker is a Cat! The four-star QB announced his decision to attend the University of Kentucky in a press conference at Conner High School moments ago. He chose the Cats over South Carolina and Tennessee.

Almost every single national recruiting analyst thought Barker was a lock for South Carolina, but Mark Stoops and his staff made a late surge that was too much for the state’s top player to turn down. Barker is being called the best high school quarterback from Kentucky in the past twenty years, and his commitment takes UK’s 2014 class from 24th in the Rivals rankings to 18th. He’s also UK’s third-highest rated recruit since the Rivals started ranking them in 2002, behind Micah Johnson and Glenn Faulkner. ESPN ranks him as the 141st best player and the 7th best pro-style quarterback in the nation.

He’ll join a legendary list of Kentucky-born quarterbacks to play for their homestate school, including Tim Couch and Jared Lorenzen.

Today, BBN stands for Big Barker Nation.

5 and 6 you better hope he’s not like Andre Woodson. Woodson was trash and a coward. Ill never forget it being 3rd and 9 and him running 8 yards then stepping out of bounds bc he didn’t wanna take a hit. You’ll say it was to save a potential injury for his pro career. Ill ask you what pro career? He had a decent arm but it was the receivers we had that made him look good.

#31, have read from many major scouts that this year is a down year at QB in high school recruits, however, Barker may very well end up being a top 3 QB when it is said and done. He will kill it in the Air Raid offense.

Just looking at pro style qb’s from 2003, Woodson was 7.

    Interesting though ahead of him
    top 6:
Kyle Wright, Chris Leak, Tommy Grady, Clayton Richard, Kevin McCabe,Jamarcus Russell.

Not only a lack of NFL talent but most of these guys didn’t too much in college, LEAK won a title with Tebow and Russell was one of the worst num 1 picks ever.

BUT at 25: Matt Ryan and 39: Joe Flacco interesting

@26, it’s not negativity. It’s a fact. There WILL be a HUGE QB controversy coming (and probably a transfer or two) and that’s not something you want in your new coach’s first season. The fans will want Barker, the Alumni will want Towles and the staff like Whitlow. Don’t get me wrong, there are worse problems to have than a nice plethora of QB’s… but it’s a huge distraction as well!

Why would Towels transfer, He will be a Junior by the time Barker gets there. The others have this season to win the job and then do it again next. So what if Barker doesn’t start as a freshmen.

#23 – that’s a joke, right? You can’t be that dumb, seriously. Woodson was “trash and a coward” because he stepped out of bounds instead of taking a hit…. by that logic, 99.5% of all quarterbacks are trash and cowards.

    44) no. They were the ones putting their bodies on the line to go up and grab those passes so he could claim that record. Tit for tat really. The point is I can’t recall a time Woodson EVER tried to run through a hit when we needed another yard on a key play. Even when he was the bigger player. I never understood all the Woodson worshippers. He really wasn’t that good.

    23. it was actually his delivery of throwing the pass. it took him for forever to get the ball out of his hands. if actually had the quickness of getting the ball out he would have been alright but as u should know. he is ranked top 3 in almost every passing category at UK. I didn’t list Woodson because he didn’t move to Kentucky until 1994. He was born in Washington and moved around a lot because his parents were in the military. So technically, not Kentucky born. Still awesome, though.

  63. DCS195

    28) I don’t think for one minute that Towles will not get a shot and neither should you. If you think that Stoops and Brown are not going to field the best QB for their system, you’re totally wrong. If it’s Towles then great, if not then so be it, he didn’t deserve it. Don’t confuse this coaching staff with the previous one. This is a new staff and everyone of these young QB’s started from scratch and if you are not #1, you didn’t earn it.

Drew is a good H.S Qb that has marketed himself well in a weak national class. I have watched him the last 2 years several times. He reminds me alot of Patrick.I dont know who said he was the best QB in the last 20 years im sorry thats nuts.I like him I hope he does well at UK. Lets not hang the savior tag on a kid and put that kind of pressure on him. He has good size and moves well. Good passer, didnt play alot of competition. That being said he might be a great player and look forward to watching him the next 4 or 5 years.
