Drew Barker Doesn’t Disappoint at ‘Elite 11’

Drew Barker hasn’t stopped recruiting since he committed to Kentucky; it’s easy to get lost while he is ‘makin moves’, but do not forget that he is still working everyday to improve his game. Yesterday Barker took his talents to this Region’s Elite 11 Camp in Columbus, OH. Elite 11 Camps give QBs the chance to receive national exposure while improving their game with former NFL QBs like Jordan Palmer and Trent Dilfer. Donning UK blue shorts during the drills, Barker proved that he IS worth the hype.  While we normally spurn @Mengus22, he wrote a nice piece for SB Nation covering Barker’s progress at the camp.

Working with the same group that had several of the best quarterbacks in it, Barker was one of a handful of that was able to show off his arm strength despite the windy conditions. Barker effortlessly threw the ball, was as accurate as just about anyone (given the conditions), and showed his ability to throw accurately and consistently while rolling or on the run.

Even though Drew has some improving to do with his footwork, all in attendance left impressed. The day ended with the ‘best of the best’ competing in one last drill called the ‘Pressure Cooker’. He did so well during the high intensity event, that Trent Dilfer had to give him a celebratory chest bump afterwards. While getting a chest bump from a balding beaut is an accomplishment in itself, Barker achieved his goals by becoming the 16th QB to be officially invited to the National Elite 11 Camp in Oregon. Drew isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

    This kid is quickly becoming one of my favorite football Cats ever, and he hasn’t even stepped on the field. Don’t want to build up too high of expectations, but I’m loving everything he’s shown us so far.

    #6 doesn’t have a clue. Nothing like making a comment and having the whole world laughing at you.

    This is a big time affirmation the kid is legit! Has he also been invited to Nike’s “Opening” in Beaverton? That is not as elite as the Elite 11 but it is a recruiting gold mine for a personable QB because there are 150 of the best at all positions….

    6=dumbass or UofL fan

    He is the 16th chosen NATIONALLY from 6 different camp sites. They have taken up to 25 or so for the national competition.

    Barker will compete again and could be one of the elite11 which is huge for exposure, not to mention the Nike event.

    Best to be silent and thought a fool than open ones mouth and remove all doubt.

    The 16the QB invited to the National Elite 11 Camp? Is it sponsored by the Big 10?

    They take 18 QB’s to compete in the finals in Oregon, same place as The Opening. He was just the 16th announced, not ranked 16th. From those Top 18 QB’s in nation they have a final camp that produces the Elite 11 and an MVP. It’s a huge honor and great for recruiting. So yeah it’s a big deal.

    Has no one ever watched this show? They invite 18 qb’s to compete in a competition they hold in Oregon, led by trent difler and jordon palmer. This was the tryouts to get to that point. They will then choose 11 top qb’s in which they will rank 1-11 once they put them thru a few days of competition and training. Its has been on espn for a few years now. Dilfer has done an excellent job at identifying top talent over the years regardless of what the rankings may indicate. Really cool show.

    @10 Regarding your first statement…What is the difference between a dumbass & a ul fan? Answer….There is no difference!!!! Good to hear that Drew is doing well at these events. Even better to know that he is working hard to improve his already over the top quarterbacking skills.

    Would’t it be a better heading to say “Barker is impressive at Elite 11”, instead of “Barker does not disappoint at Elite 11”? Where you expecting him to disappoint?
