Gotta Love The Mohawk
Gregg Doyel. You might love him, you might hate him, but there is no doubt that he brings a different perspective to almost any sports story. In his latest column, he offers a take on Calipari and his recruiting efforts that is rarely discussed amongst his journalism brethren. Rather than poor mouth Calipari for recruiting players that have their sights set on the NBA, he actually praises the man for doing a great job. A novel thought one would like to see become a bit more pervasive.
Gregg does a good job at breaking down all the potential recruits that Coach has in his sights. I think he makes the point that recruiting isn’t a short cycle process anymore but one that is a constant pursuit of any coach that wants to succeed at the college level. In this, John Calipari is a maestro and Doyle appropriately recognizes and applauds a genius at work.
I know we are all getting tired of the drum beat of criticism directed at Calipari and the Kentucky program. It is nice to know there are some scribes out there that refuse to accept the tired storylines and dare to branch out with a different thought or opinion.
Thank God for Gregg Doyel.
