Doug Gottlieb likes the Cats

Coach Cal talked yesterday about how no one will want to face his team in the tournament if they can figure out how to play a full 40 minutes – short rotation or not. ESPN’s Doug Gottlieb appears to agree with him and placed Kentucky as his fifth-best team in country on a list that does not include Duke. A little too much praise for a team that has seemed a bit flawed since SEC play started? Maybe not, considering the question marks that appear to be plaguing every team in a college basketball season that lacks the typical handful of elite teams. We’ll probably have a better answer after the next four games, but for now, you can celebrate Gottlieb’s praise.

There is some evil plan here that we aren’t seeing. I do not take his opinion at face value. He is putting some voodoo hex on UK by saying such things. I got you figured out, Gottlieb, you sneaky turd.

Assuming we don’t get in foul trouble I like our chances with almost anyone. I would really like to be able to stay clear of the top 3 teams he outlines though. Lots of athleticism, size, and depth. In March, though, anything can happen! Go Cats!

Just because Gottlieb says something favorable about the Cats doesn’t mean he no longer sucks.

You people are so consumed with your inferior complex that you react negatively to ANYTHING said about UK. If it’s bad news/coverage, it must be some kind of conspiracy. If it is positive news/coverage, there must be some kind of hidden agenda. I’m sorry to tell you ESPN doesnt care nearly as much about this program as you think. Some of you make it sound like there is a 9am conference call every morning involving ESPN, the NCAA and many other members of a shadowy group whose goal it is to stand in the way of UK’s success. As hard as it is for you to believe, they don’t spend nearly as much time thinking about you as many of you think. You are living in some kind of fantasy world.

I actaully think Gottleib has been pretty fair to UK over the last two years. He has liked this group from the begining, but has questioned their maturity (righyfully so). I think a lot of the hatred by UK fans towards Gottlieb stems from him bashing us when we were medicore during the end of the Tubby era and the start of Billy ball.

  25. JackBluto
    1:05 pm February 1, 2011 Permalink

When you think about it, UK’s success is all the more remarkable given the NCAA/ESPN conspiracy #11 so cleverly tried to sweep under the rug. The greatest trick the devil ever pulled off was convincing us that he did not exist.

When Enes was practicing with Jorts we looked like #5 now we look very ordinary at times.

That is an amazingly shocking pick to be honest. I’m always glad when UK gets recognition for being a good team but I never envisioned Gottlieb picking us in the top 5. Hell, he was reluctant to do it last year when we were much more dominant.

I think the moral of the story is that most of the big six conferences suck this year and since people are still reluctant to rank “mid majors” ,which are now becoming majors, very highly so it leaves more slots for mediocre big six teams in the top 25 and top 10.

  31. boots45

    29) When Jorts plays against length he struggles. It has nothing to do with Enes. He dominated Louisville because they are a small team and Jennings didn’t play.

#26 – You might be joking, but some members of Big Blue Nation DO believe this nonsense. Like the people who said Rondo/Orton/Bledsoe were all over-rated on draft boards in an effort to trick them into leaving school and thus hurting the team. There are people who actually believe garbage like that.

#11, UK fans do not, by and large, think that the world is out to get them. There are some journalists and talking heads that we like (Decourcy, Doyle, Bilas, Vitale, etc.), and some we don’t (Gottlieb, for example).

..and what the hell is an “inferior complex”? Is it a complex that just isn’t as good another one?

You are wrong if you think UK fans dont think the world is out to get them. It’s always something: the refs, ESPN, NCAA. Someone is always standing over a scale model of the UK campus, rubbing their hands together and laughing maniacally while they put together a plan to bring this program down.

#40 – I like the team. I just dont like most of the fans. Frankly, I am embarrassed by how dumb Kentucky looks nationally when every message board on every issue related to UK across the country is full of conspiracy theories rambling incoherently about nonsense. People have the right to think we are backward and uneducated. The loudest members of Big Blue Nation give them all the evidence they need to support that belief.

i see us doing well if we play together, when Jones tries to break everyone down 1on1 every play thats when problems happen. To me he’s a catch 22..he can score and make plays, but when he is out of the game, the ball movement is much better and an open man gets looks
