Donte Rumph will have surgery today, expected to be back for the fall

After going down with a shoulder injury on Monday, Donte Rumph will have surgery today and is expected back for the fall. Considering how severe the injury seemed earlier this week, that return timetable is definitely good news.

Get well, big fella.

That is good news. We’re going to need the big man.

That means he is likely going to misses all of spring and summer practice/conditioning and show up in the fall completely out of shape. If that’s the case, the truth is he needs to redshirt and wait for the 2014 campaign.

Rumph won’t be ‘completely out of shape’ in the fall. He will still be able to do conditioning and stay on diet. He won’t be able to do much upper body work during the spring and summer, but he won’t lose everything he has now-strength wise either. He will have time to rehab and then a little over a month of practice time to shake the rust off and regain strength hopefully.
For a player of Donte’s experience, skill, and importance, this is really good news. We need him to be with us in the fall!
