University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

Dominique Hawkins still waiting to hear from UK

The Madison County Schools central office was hoping for good Hawkins news today.

Earlier, we told you that there would be no announcement from Dominique Hawkins today. Hawkins’ coach, Allen Feldhaus, Jr. came on the radio show to talk about the talented guard who is the favorite to win Kentucky’s Mr. Basketball honor tonight. Feldhaus said that Hawkins is still waiting to hear if he gets a scholarship from Calipari, and leaves for spring break tonight, hence the week delay.

The delay probably means that there are still some roster rumblings happening. The Herald-Leader’s Ben Roberts reported that as of last night at 6 p.m., Alex Poythress, Archie Goodwin and Willie Cauley-Stein had yet to have the “NBA talk” with Cal. As for Andrew Wiggins? The delay has nothing to do with him; Wiggins’ decision is still a little bit away, especially since he’s getting ready to play in the McDonalds’ All-American game. That game could have a huge impact on Wiggins’ decision, since the rosters have been rosters have been shifted so that Julius Randle and Dakari Johnson could play on the same team. Testing out team chemistry, perhaps?

Feldhaus also said that during their meetings, Calipari has compared Hawkins to former UK guard Eric Bledsoe. I’ll take it.

Still don’t understand the infatuation with this kid. Comparing him to Bledsoe is hot air. So he’s from Kentucky and will be a 4 year player that won’t sniff the floor. Seems like a waste of a scholarship.

Stop comparing him to Darius-he was 6’7″ and rated top 50 player. This Hawkins kid is 6’0″, not rated and if I’m correct a 35% 3 point shooter. That’s nothing to brag about.

@1. Hawkins just happened to drop 20+ on the twins, you know, the ones that everyone thinks are the salvation after this down season. The kid’s got game and will see more playing time than you think.

He could very well be the back up point next year

Kids best offers are Purdue, Western, South Carolina and Morehead. So either this kid is a giant diamond in the rough or this is just the KSR hype machine at work. Even after the Sweet 16 he isn’t hearing anything from other schools, I’m betting the latter.

I’m not sure what the hold up is? 2014 will be great but 2015 could be another 2013 so I say sign this kid up right now.

How has Cal not offered all of you to be his talent scouts and evaluators? I don’t know how this program has survived without all of your expertise on high school kids’ talent levels. I hope he quits listening to the KSR “hype machine” and starts listening to the obviously more knowledgeable fans like yourselves. Otherwise, we’re doomed.

So the kid isn’t all that highly rated, could see a jump in the ratings because it looks like he’s caught many eyes lately. But you are right, he’s not D Miller or E Bledsoe. That doesn’t mean he has no chance at developing into a contributor at some point. Cal is recruiting him to come in and start, he’s there for depth. Look at Jon Hood, at one time some recruting services had him as a 5 star, now he doesn’t look as good as un ranked J Polson. The recruting services usually get the top 50 or so right but after that is really a crapshoot of who will develop and who won’t…..See Leigh’s McCollum, UM Trey Burke, Murray State’s I Cannan, Weber St D Lillard. Sure there are examples either way but you can’t right off a kid like that immediately. Why don’t you just let the coaching staff worry about that.

9 nice lillard was a great example. He was like a 2 maybe 3 star player and now is rookie of the year in the nba over the number one over all player in the nation Anthony Davis. Can’t predict what a player can become just off of rankings. Cough derick character cough

Amen #1 Hawkins isnt UK talent. Noway he is the back up next year because Polson is better then him. If you want to say KY Mr.Basketball should have a ride to UK then good, im all for it. Dont set here and act like he is a star because hes not. Its not fair to him or Cal.
For the ones who act like Cal wants him grow up. If Cal offeres this kid its only because of pressure from others. Hope he goes to EKU where he can play or walks on like Polson and prooves his worth

No I didn’t say I know more than Cal. Be honest, if he is that good Cal would have already offered him. This situation reminds me of Elisha Justice.

If this kid was legit, you would hear about Rick, Brad Stevens or even Mike Cronin showing interest.

Sorry I doubt a 6’0″ unrated guard who shoots a pedestrian 35% from downtown with no offers from contending programs. That’s logically fair. It seems like just because he is from Kentucky the fan base labels him the next Darius.

Your using 1 kid that made it but as a whole you know the recruiting experts are right. sure they miss on some kids but for the most part their right. Hawkins may well be great he has GOOD schools recruiting him. i just dont think hes UK good. i really see know way he passes Polson up this year with 3 years of SEC play under his belt.
I dont know why Hawkins doesnt go the Polson RT. and walk on and earn his ride like Polson. doesnt Mr. basketball come with college aid plus what he can get as a in-state student? i dont think hes good enough to be given demands to Cal.

the idea that cal needs to talk to goodwin, poythress and cauley-stein about whether/not to stay or go pro is laughable. i don’t want to hear about potential and instant millions (which isn’t true btw; ask lamb and teague) and a weak draft. these guys got beat by robert morris and failed to make the tournament. who’s going to draft them high enough to justify leaving early? i understand noel (although he has to work on his offensive game/jump shot), but the other three…give me a break!

    15. Not sure why you’re trying to use rational thought on this site. Most of the people on here don’t want to hear that. They read a few articles about someone on this site, jump the bandwagon and anyone that speaks differently is a troll, idiot, or know it all.
He’s the next Darius damn it, cause a blog on this site said so a week ago, therefore it is gospel

I cant believe im going to say this but do we need Wiggins? as good as he is he will need to dominate the ball and rightfully so. with what we already have do we really need 1 player wanting the ball that much. Any way this is a good problem to have im sure Cal can handle what ever we get.
sure is good to be a UK fan right now

Hawkins is better than any one on the UK bench this past year, why not take him?

@15 then you should say unranked. He is rated as a 3* but he is unranked in the top 100 or w.e it goes to. But I suppose I get what you are saying. Still I think Hawkins could have potential. Definitely has more upside than Polson in my opinion. Already demonstrated he has more guts than harrow. There’s nothing wrong with having a project player or two.

    18) He means Hawkins is a three star prospect. No one thinks he plays the three position.

I think the title of next Darius would fit Derek Willis better than Hawkins since he will not likely be playing the same position and a similar style as Darius.

No Hawkins isnt better then anybody Uk had on their bench last year. Hood and Polson are better then this kid is right now. Funny how most have forgotten how good Polson was in high school.Kid was a lond way from a scrub now he has 3 years of SEC play under his belt. Hood was a 4 star. There is a big defference in KHSAA basketball and NCAA basketball.
As far as Polson goes how do you thinkl Hawkins is better? Polson is taller has a lot better shot and handles. this isnt high school where Hawkins can use his strength to bull his way to the goal.

Best way to solve this is to have Mr. and Ms. basketball carry grant and aid to either UK or UL. im sure the state could get someone to pay for it. Both schools get state money so it is easy to do. that way if a Kentucky boy wants to go to UK or UL and walk on its a win win for everyone. Plus who knows some years it may help one of the schools get a blue chip player with out wasting a scholarship.

Just enjoy the damn ride Cal has got this shit fellas.

Definitely a good backup for Harrison. For those of you who are complaining he can’t be a backup point guard at UK, you obviously haven’t watched him play. Doesn’t just “bull” his way to the basket, and has much better handles than Polson, even at this age, and has better athleticism to boot. Also, who in the hell thinks Hood is actually better than this kid?? Ludicrous

No 30 your missing what im saying. i would love to see Hawkins at UK, but you have some who think that Cal should run off Hood and Polson and give him theit spot.
i agree we have some complaining about 4 year players but they want to get rid off the ones we already have because they arent that good. News flash Hawkins isnt any better then the ones we allready have who have EARNED their ride. Polson isnt the scrub most make him out to be he is fully capable of giving 10 min. a night and not hurting the team.
