Do the Cats deserve an NCAA bid? Willie and Archie think so.

i-3

Archie Goodwin and Willie Cauley-Stein drew the short straws and came to face the media after tonight’s loss to Vandy. When asked if they thought the Cats deserved an NCAA bid, they both said yes.

Archie: “I feel that we are definitely have the talent and the good wins against quality teams. …It’s just a matter of us doing it every day.”

Willie: “We beat three ranked teams: Florida, Ole Miss and Missouri. And Missouri’s in it, so I don’t see why we can’t compete in it.”

I’ll have what they’re having.

UK only beat one team that’s actually ranked now. They have precious few quality wins and more than a few bad losses. This team has a bad RPI, and VERY weak non-conference schedule and lost in their first game of a very weak SEC conferency tournament. Big wins over David Lipscomb and Eastern Michigan does not a resume make.

Archie is the same guy that thinks driving to “just draw the foul” style of play is a good idea when you can’t shoot freethrows. I find his judgement suspect.

I love the cats, but this team does NOT deserve to be in the field. They sicken me. I’ve never seen a team with less heart in my entire life. I can handle losing. I can’t handle these guys not even caring. I’m done with this year. If they don’t want to play, why should I take time out of my day to watch them. Its like watching someone cut the heads off of a litter of kittens. Too painful to watch.

Has there been any other team this year that actually got worse as the season progressed?? I can’t think of any. This team totally DISGRACED the uniform and DISSED the fan base all year with lack of guts, heart, energy, passion, IQ, and will to win. Guarantee you that waking up to this tomorrow will be even worse than tonight.

Yes, Archie and WCS are the only two who play hard and try during the course of the game. Sad to watch the other players and how awful they play together. Cal screwed this team up something fierce. Maybe he will learn you can’t push 5 players out of the program every year.

Archie’s comment says it all, for 6 months Kentucky has been practicing and playing basketball and he thinks talent and bringing everyday is all it takes. He has no idea what it takes to win and after his 1st year he’s still clueless.

Let me begin by saying that I’m very glad that I have a wife, kids and a very beautiful and full life to come home to tonight after this national embarrassment at the hands of a 15-16 Vanderbilt team. All the jokes made at the expense of Kevin Stallings will be on us tonight in one of the most miserable performances in the history of UK basketball. Actually it is quite difficult to think of a more insipid performance in our history. So, now it comes time to write the epitaph on this excruciatingly painful and uninspiring season. What to say? NIT bid? Please, no, decline it so that this team can be no more and so that Cal can go to Gethsemani and take a week or two to meditate and reflect upon how the all-access circus mentality has destroyed our ability to build a fundamentally sound, hungry and determined basketball team less than one-year after we dominated the sport….how the “players first I’d never want to offend an aspiring 5-star basketball recruit” has decimated a coaches ability to mold “ballers” into real basketball players and men who have balls and know what it takes to win….and what an honor and privilege it is to wear the blue and white….etc.etc.etc…I sincerely hope that this is the last basketball game we’ll ever see this group play…not because I hate these kids or want to see them fail…but because they’re not ready for this stage, they never were ready for it, and the circus into which they we’re thrown never gave them a chance….it is time to scrap that script, close out this year, and begin again next year with the business-THE SOLE BUSINESS-of learning how to become a team and win basketball games.

  26. Steve
    10:14 pm March 15, 2013 Permalink

    23. Shooting a line drive, a foot short on 3’s and making 61% of free throws after circus shots if you get lucky enough to get fouled ain’t it.
When has he or Alex brought it everyday? And if they think they have great talent, somebody needs to give them some DVD’s from last year’s team!

Guys I know Archie has had some bad games, but the kid does play with heart, he is a true freshman reminds of how Terrance Jones was his first year. Now on the other hand, Harrow is a girl. Mays plays no defense and just tried to tell everyone else what they do wrong. Wiltjer couldn’t guard a snowman. Poythress is thinking of whats going on with the tv show Dancing with Stars.

    Pat Forde is correct.

You have to base it on the record since Nerlens’ unfortunate departure.

This is the most disappointing UK team I have seen since I started following them as a kid in 1973. They simply have no heart. I believe it is because they are sold that this is a players school. Screw that this is Kentucky.
They lost to Tennessee by 30! This team is NIT bound with supposed 3-4 first round pics? God knows all of the Tubby haters would have been ready to get rid of the Tubster had he lost with this much talent. Tubby never went to the NIT like his two successors have. Only Noel is a first round pic. Proythess, Goodwin and Stein will go to the D League.
They were destroyed by Tennessee and a horrible Vandy team with a losing record. How are they to go to the NCAA tourney?
It is time Eleven Loss Cal decided that this is Kentuckys team, not a players team. I am tired of UK players who are at UK for 5 months being in control of the team. They simply have no connection to Kentucky at all. Sean Woods was correct in his statements earlier this year. recruit some kids who want to stay, you know a like like Hayes, Patterson, Miller, Pelphrey, Harrelson, Anderson, or Shepherd. Oh I am sorry they are not good enough for Kentucky anymore are they. Glad we have Goodwin, Proythress and Harrow.
Cannot wait to football season. They will play with pride I bet.

I am an embarrassed UK fan. I think Calipari needs to answer questions why his team does not hustle. I do not care that they lose, but they do not hustle or show any emotion of frustration. I wonder of they really care.
I am sick of this garbage. Hustle or leave. Again, i do not care about losing. I care about hustling. Hustling takes no talent. It takes heart. And Kentucky has no heart. Calapari recruited these kids. It is his baby.
Ticket prices have gone sky high at Rupp for this? I watched Bellarmine University play Kentucky Weslyan recently and Bellarmine University could teach this UK team alot about how to play basketball and hustling. They are fun to watch. Wish UK was.

Here’s my take on the whole mess… Yes this team lacks the ability to reliably deliver the talent game after game that we have become accustomed to in the several years past. That is a fact, but what makes me more disappointed than watching a game like tonight is this fan base that is so critical of this group of guys who represent our University. Don’t give me the “they don’t have the pride to wear the Big blue or name across their jerseys crap” or “why do they deserve scholarships or free educations?” If you’re half as talented as these guys are, get off your butts and go talk to Cal about walking on the team next year to do your part to represent us better… That’s assuming you can qualify to enroll in the first place. If you didn’t go to college, please don’t lecture these guys about their free educations… They’ve already surpassed you in attempting to do something productive with their lives. They still go to class, they still go to practice, they’re still wearing my teams colors so I will support them. If you’re one of those fans that only gets his UK hat out after we win a game, but relish at the opportunity to trash your own team after a loss… As politely as I can manage to say it… Go f yourself and cheer for Louisville. They love fare weather fans and they’ll apparently let you drink at their games, enjoy. I’m just as frustrated as most fans, but truth of the matter is BBN has become spoiled to the success of the past few years. Quit blaming Cal and quit blaming the players for wanting to leave early. No one blamed Cal for having “one and done’s” last year, or the year before, or the year before, or… Ummm let’s just forget the year before that. We knew what we were getting with Cal and we’ve had a heck of time enjoying the last few seasons under that system. Hell, I’m just happy our banners are still hanging under his system. It is what it is and I’ll still be more than happy to take our last two seasons over trading any other team’s last two in their place. If you can’t agree with that, see note above in regards to taking off your Kentucky hat. Go have a beer, kiss your wife, and tuck in your bottom lip… #We’reStillUK and we have everything to look forward to in the coming year. Stop acting like spoiled A-holes and talking down our team. BBN is big enough that we won’t miss the jerks that jump off the bandwagon.

Give me the young men we have coming in next year, add one of the maybe’s that we’re after, and they would beat this bunch of players easily even though they haven’t played one game of college ball. I watch the offensive sets they “try” to run, and then I watch them on defense. One is as bad as the other. A lot of the blame has to go to Calipari. He too hasn’t proved he’s an elite coach this year in my opinion. I know, opinions are like arsholes, everybody has one. When did you say Big Blue Madness starts?
