Join me in welcoming these three gentlemen back home to Big Blue Nation. They stepped out to cheer on Randall Cobb and the Packers last night and the game didn’t end the way they, or anyone, expected. Hopefully this steaming hot bowl of afternoon notes will warm them up from the cold and today’s podcast will take their minds off the heartbreaking loss.
— With rumors picking up that Derek Willis will commit to UK later this week, Louisville fans are already talking trash about Willis and Kentucky on the message boards. My three favorite themes:
(1) He’s overrated and he wouldn’t have made a difference at Louisville anyway.
(2) He was afraid of the competition with Chane Behanan and Angel Nunez ahead of him.
(3) Worldwide Wes swooped in and paid him.
Bless their little hearts. Worldwide Wes? Really? Yeah, he’s connected in Mt. Washington. Angel Nunez? Really. Just accept that Cal owns Rick and move on.
— 2012 big man Tony Parker said after his game today that UConn is now a major player in his recruitment. Parker told scouts and reporters in Springfield that he will take his final visit to either Connecticut or Kentucky. Cal and his staff are VERY high on Anthony Bennett so Parker is likely a secondary option in the post for UK’s 2012 class.
— Kentucky is No. 2 in both polls this week and Anthony Davis is your SEC Freshman of the Week. Tune in next Monday when we report the exact same thing.
— On the women’s side of things, A’dia Mathies was named SEC Player of the Week to the surprise of absolutely no one. A’dia had one of the best performances in UK history in the win over Tennessee, when she scored a career-high 34 points. It was the most points scored in a game at Kentucky since 1987.
— It’s halftime of Bishop Gorman’s game in the Spalding Hoop Hall Classic and Shabazz has 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Check out the second half on ESPN U or ESPN 3 if you want to watch a high school phenom that could very well end up in Lexington next season.
— Look at Cal and Wojo buddying up. Hey, Coach K!
— We’re everywhere.
(From the Hoop Hall Classic)
— We’ll have coverage from Calipari’s pre-Arkansas press conference tonight when he returns from the recruiting visit. Hang in there.
