Disappointed Packers Fans of the Day Want To Warm Up With Today’s Afternoon Notes and Podcast

Join me in welcoming these three gentlemen back home to Big Blue Nation. They stepped out to cheer on Randall Cobb and the Packers last night and the game didn’t end the way they, or anyone, expected. Hopefully this steaming hot bowl of afternoon notes will warm them up from the cold and today’s podcast will take their minds off the heartbreaking loss.

— With rumors picking up that Derek Willis will commit to UK later this week, Louisville fans are already talking trash about Willis and Kentucky on the message boards. My three favorite themes:

(1) He’s overrated and he wouldn’t have made a difference at Louisville anyway.
(2) He was afraid of the competition with Chane Behanan and Angel Nunez ahead of him.
(3) Worldwide Wes swooped in and paid him.

Bless their little hearts. Worldwide Wes? Really? Yeah, he’s connected in Mt. Washington. Angel Nunez? Really. Just accept that Cal owns Rick and move on.

— 2012 big man Tony Parker said after his game today that UConn is now a major player in his recruitment. Parker told scouts and reporters in Springfield that he will take his final visit to either Connecticut or Kentucky. Cal and his staff are VERY high on Anthony Bennett so Parker is likely a secondary option in the post for UK’s 2012 class.

— Kentucky is No. 2 in both polls this week and Anthony Davis is your SEC Freshman of the Week. Tune in next Monday when we report the exact same thing.

— On the women’s side of things, A’dia Mathies was named SEC Player of the Week to the surprise of absolutely no one. A’dia had one of the best performances in UK history in the win over Tennessee, when she scored a career-high 34 points. It was the most points scored in a game at Kentucky since 1987.

— It’s halftime of Bishop Gorman’s game in the Spalding Hoop Hall Classic and Shabazz has 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Check out the second half on ESPN U or ESPN 3 if you want to watch a high school phenom that could very well end up in Lexington next season.

— Look at Cal and Wojo buddying up. Hey, Coach K!

We’re everywhere.

(From the Hoop Hall Classic)

— We’ll have coverage from Calipari’s pre-Arkansas press conference tonight when he returns from the recruiting visit. Hang in there.

Listen to today’s podcast after the jump.

Do we really have room for Willis??? If we want the Harrison twins, Nerlens Noel,Jabari Parker and Julius Randle…I think Chris Walker and Chris Thomas are pretty much a no go, but i never count anyone out with Cal

Sounds like Calhoun finally made and offer to Parker. Granted it likely came in an unmarked envelope with a post-it saying there’s more where that came from.

Shabazz with the full windmill to seal the game. Get. Him. Here.

bmac, why make that comment??? we get all hot and bothered when someone accusing cal of cheating without providing any evidence. why lower yourself to a card fan level??? makes our fan base look awfully petty imo.

Definitely don’t want Parker and Shabazz probably to Duke judging by his interaction with K and his staff.

    14. Where do you even get that from? Cal was sitting right next to K, and Shabazz in no way favored him over Cal from his reactions. Also, he mentioned UK first when asked where he was considering in his post game interview. Duke was listed 4th.

  16. MttaCatFan
    2:53 pm January 16, 2012 Permalink

No single national writer predicts that Shabazz will go to Duke. Dave Telep says UK is the unofficial leader, and anyone who disagrees thinks he would go to either UNLV or UCLA

In the postgame interview the first school mentioned was of course….Kentucky. I didn’t notice the dukie love the previous post spoke of???

It would be great having Shabazz and the Harrison twins play for UK! Now what I was very very impressed with during the game today and Cal saw it too was the play of Shabazz’s freshman teammate 6’10 Stephan Zimmerman. WOW!! Hope Cal gets the attention of this kid now and builds a relationship (whatever that can be under NCAA laws). Zimmerman is the real deal.

Plus if any of you all follow Shabazz on Twitter he is always talking about watching Kentucky play. Seems to be a good kid so he will succeed where ever he goes, lets just hope it here.

I’m pretty sure that UK is the only team Shabazz really tweets about and calls the players his bros. The only way he doesnt come to UK is if he dad and whomever there persuade him to stay west coast. But, Shabazz isnt stupid, he knows how Cal gets players in the NBA and he wants the national attention that comes with being here. Parker is only a back up plan if Bennett goes somewhere else. Interviews with that kid before made it out like Coach K was all over him so wouldnt be surprised if he goes to Duke. Derek Willis, we would be stupid not to accept his committment. They kid can play and has great shooting range. I dont believe we will have as many scholarships for 2013 bc as of now, none of our commits for ’12 are one and dones. Can they be with Cal’s help? Maybe, but I hope they stay to play with ’13 players. Harrison twins, Noel, Randle, Willis would be a great class. I’ve heard Jabari Parker doesnt have much interest in UK, but that was awhile back. As for Stephen Zimmerman, saw an interview with him a while back and he really likes UK and wants them to get involved.

Ya know 3 years ago when Cal came all the national writers and others talked about the vacated games…Camby…Memphis…etc. Anyone who was willing to listen and look at the documentation on any of that knew that Cal turned Camby in and the NCAA OK’d Rose not once, not twice, but three times to play. If he’d gone anywhere else, that school would have had to deal with the Rose situation. Anybody who plays the cheater card now after 3 years is a little shallow. They are like that woman congressman from south Florida that tells us everyday how their is smooth running democracy in Iraq, the economy is booming, this President is creating jobs and dealing with all the tough issues that are making our country as strong as its ever been. If Cal was cheating, do you not think the NCAA and all other coaching rivals, local, regional, and national media would have uncovered it by now? They work on it full time.
