Did Christian Laettner lobby for more minutes for Davis?

This will never get old.

Fresh off posing for what may be the best photo ever, Christian Laettner had another mission of goodwill for the Big Blue Nation: talking to his old coach about giving Anthony Davis more minutes. Laettner confessed his ulterior motives to ESPN’s Marc Stein:

Davis also had an unforseen lobbyist working on his behalf Monday, on the eve of the Tunisia game, trying to get him more minutes. That would be Laettner himself, who went to the workout in his role as an Olympic reporter for Fox Sports, but with the side hope of convincing his old Duke coach to give Davis some run.

Not that he was prepared to make any outright demands.

“I’m going to ask him about it,” Laettner said with a laugh.

But I do think [Davis] needs to play a little bit in these next two games. I think Coach K’s gotta get him in there a little bit because they can’t play small-ball all the time and the kid is a terrific player. He’s really long and really gets above the rim.”

First he mops the sweat off the court in Rupp Arena in a charity game. Then he posed with Tony Delk and recreated the infamous Timberlake stomp with Anthony Davis putting his big foot squarely on his chest. Now, he’s lobbying for more minutes for one of the Big Blue’s most beloved. If the six-year-old version of me didn’t know better, I’d say Laettner might be a closet UK fan.

At this point, it’s become a fake hate. I don’t TRULY hate him anymore, it’s a sports manufactured hate.

And yes, I would still run over him with a truck. 🙂

I ended up getting over Laettner a long time ago, he seems to have gotten that he was a giant pr!ck and wants to change his image. Still can’t stand to see the replay of that shot. My true anger is toward Pitino who called a terrible defense by not defending the inbounds pass!

it’s not surprising that Laettner would put the good word in for Davis when you remember that he was also the lone college player on the original dream team.

I love how this site stirs up sh!t all the time – trying to get the BBN to dislike people or companies or tv stations more than we should. Then tell us we are a bunch of nuts for actually dislike’n someone. Now, ksr is trying to get the BBN to drop its hard feelings for a dukie that stomped on one of our players. As Richie said, “he stomped on the only guy on the team that wouldn’t have gotten up and knocked him out.” matt, take your crap back duke where the people are soft and will actually fall for your tricks.

Let’s have Timberlake ‘reenact’ that moment with the dukie and see how nicely it ends.

When he lobbies the NCAA to admit that the clock timer got it wrong, he didn’t get the shot off in time and the game should be vacated in UK’s favor, he’s forgiven. They’ll be showing that shot on whatever network has the tournament for fifty years. They should show Padgett’s.

Matt Jones et al, the Duke sympathizers. This is weak and unforgivable.

  31. dick gosinia

All he needs to do now is either apologize for making that shot or comeing out and admitting that he should have signed with UK. He does either of those and we are good!

If Davis was wearing his UK 23 jersey and Laettner in his Pukie jersey, THEN it would be a picture for the ages.

Nope, until he puts on a UK jersey and wins us #9 I will still hate laettner. But it is sports hate, so if I see him in heaven we will be cool.

    5:26 pm August 1, 2012 Permalink

laettner is a joke. I wish KSR would stop trying to force feed this on us. Only so the younger crowd can say ” It’s been twenty years get over it.” and the older folks say ” I will never get over it I will always hate him” It’s been talked to death find anther subject to stir the pot.

  40. IT DOES MATTER
    6:19 pm August 1, 2012 Permalink

Laettner cheated. I will never, EVER like a cheater. He may mean well now, but he cheated, still got to play in the game, hit the winning shot. We got straight whipped by Wade, and I’m fine with that. If a player/team beats us outright, there is no beef. This man will forever be hated

Wow…this is like the Star Wars trilogy all over again, with Laettner as Darth Vader. I can almost imagine Christian, many years from now, admitting in his last breath that we “were right about him”, and there IS some good in him.

Call me after Laetner’s first born signs a Letter of Intent to UK. All will be forgiven after that day.
