Did ‘Bama Fans Take It Too Far?

This new t-shirt is what Alabama fans are wearing in support of their head coach, Nick Saban. The idea  comes from a famous satanic cult shirt seen here.

Did Bama fans go too far with this one? Is the shirt too offensive?

It’s only offensive in the sense that it’s crass and vulgar to idolize anyone or anything. I love UK basketball, but I’m not putting anyone from Rupp to Cal on a pedestal. Thankfully, Cal understands that that whole dynamic is unhealthy and goes out of his way to point out that he’s not the “grand poobah,” as he said during his first press conference. Yeah, he runs our big show, and his skill-set makes him perfect for that, yet he puts his pants on one leg at time.

Every single person on our team comes from a different set of circumstances. They have vastly different personal views and beliefs. Yet in spite of those differences they have come together to form a bond to represent the flagship of their respective state, that goes for Alabama as well. You need to support your team but, whoever is putting this out, this is bad..bad..bad.. marketing as those young men are now going to have to answer questions that are not fair and is sure to be inappropriate.

I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. Most people do not understand Satanism at any rate. The Satan/Lucifer that these people worship is not the Satan as Christians understand him.

58, truly entertaining when an adult (?) talks about the great battle between two make-believe entities like you have watched it in person at the stadium or something. This is why our nation is in decline…the belief in the biggest mind control scam in the history of the planet…organized religion. It would be funny if it were not killing our nation…and others. More people have died because of religious intolerance than any other reason in the history of the world…oh, but wait, YOURS is the correct one…I forgot.

  61. Audio

58, totally agree. I think our society gets way too offended over freedom of expression (#32, it’s a two way street. People who are offended by every little thing Christians say and do are just as much at fault as the Christians you like to complain about). However, that being said, I think it’s a very stupid shirt and would never own one of my own. It’s not offensive, but it’s poor taste IMO. I just think it’s better if athletic merchandise doesn’t crossover into the religious realm. What’s next? A shirt equating Cal to Jesus, Allah, or Buddah? I don’t think any of those shirts would go over too well, and I’d prefer this just not become an issue, so I’d rather avoid it altogether.

60, put down the Haterade. You have the freedom to believe whatever you want, but respect Christians’ freedom of religion as well. There’s nothing I love more than someone that’s on some high and mighty soapbox preaching equality, freedom, peace, etc, and then in the same breath go on the attack of an entire group of people, belittling them based solely on your personal disagreements with their beliefs or lifestyle. That, my friend, is what we call a hypocrite and a bigot. You are no different than those you claim to oppose.

    The Nine Satanic Sins
Beliefs of the Church of Satan

    By Catherine Beyer,

While the Church of Satan encourages individuality and the gratification of desires, it does not suggest that all actions are acceptable. The Nine Satanic Sins, published by Anton LaVey in 1987, target nine characteristics Satanists should avoid. Here they are, along with my own explanations.

    1. Stupidity
Stupid people do not get ahead in this world. Satanists strive to keep themselves informed and to not be fooled by others who seek to manipulate and use them.

    2. Pretentiousness
Taking pride in one’s achievements is encouraged in Satanism. However, one should only take credit for one’s own accomplishments. Making empty claims about yourself is not only obnoxious but also potentially dangerous, leading to sin No. 4, self-deceit.

    3. Solipsism
Satanists use this term to refer to the presumption many people make that other people think, act and have the same desires as themselves. It’s important to remember that everyone is an individual with his own individual goals and plans. To expect someone to treat you as you treat him is foolish. Instead, Satanists encourages you to treat people as they treat you. You should always deal with the reality of the situation rather than expectations.

    4. Self-Deceit
Satanists deal with the world as it is. Convincing yourself of untruths because they are more comfortable is no less problematic than letting someone else deceive you.

    5. Herd Conformity
Satanism exalts the power of the individual. Western culture encourages people to go with the flow, and to believe and do things simply because the wider community is doing such. Satanists attempt to avoid such behavior, following the herd only if it makes logical sense and suits one’s own needs.

    6. Lack of Perspective
Remain aware of both the big and small pictures, never sacrificing one for the other. Remember your own important place in things, and don’t be overwhelmed with the viewpoints of the herd. On the flipside, we do live in a world larger than ourselves. Always keep an eye on the big picture and how you can fit yourself into it.

    7. Forgetful of Past Orthodoxies
Society is constantly taking old ideas and repackaging them as new, original ideas. Do not be fooled by such offerings.

    8. Counterproductive Pride
If it works, use it. You should never be embarrassed of your own accomplishments. However, if pride is getting in the way of getting things done with other people, you should set it aside until such time as it becomes constructive again.

    9. Lack of Aesthetics
Beauty and balance are two things Satanists strive for. This is particularly true in magical practices but can be extended to the rest of one’s life as well. Avoid following that which society dictates is beautiful and learn to identify true beauty, whether or not others recognize it.

    ***********************************************

Yeah, that sounds just like the Satan of Christianity.
