Dickie V gives Davis and Kidd-Gilchrist Mid-Season Awards

It’s almost time for conference play to begin…you know what that means: mid-season awards. Dickie V, never one to shy away from doling out accolades, handed out virtual hardware to two of his favorites, Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist:

1. Thomas Robinson, Kansas Jayhawks
2. Jeremy Lamb, Connecticut Huskies
3. Jared Sullinger, Ohio State Buckeyes
4. Marcus Denmon, Missouri Tigers
5. Anthony Davis, Kentucky Wildcats

His shot-blocking ability makes him the total package for John Calipari’s Wildcats. He can score inside, rebound and changes games in the lane with his defensive prowess. Just look at what he did on Tuesday in a win over Arkansas-Little Rock: 22 points, 16 rebounds, three blocks. He has double-doubles in four straight games.

6. Doug McDermott, Creighton Blue Jays

1. Davis, Kentucky Wildcats

His length makes him a real factor as a game-changer blocking shots. He already has eight double-doubles this season. Davis has 67 blocked shots in just 15 games; when you block more than four per game, plus you adjust opponents’ shots, you are a force in the middle.

2. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Kentucky Wildcats

Simply look at the line against Louisville in the rivalry game: 24 points, 19 rebounds. I love watching this young man play basketball. I saw him in the City of Palms tournament down in Florida last year and loved his game. Calipari loves him too.

3. Cody Zeller, Indiana Hoosiers
4. Austin Rivers, Duke Blue Devils
5. Tony Wroten, Washington Huskies
6. Bradley Beal, Florida Gators

1. Frank Haith, Missouri Tigers
2. Tom Crean, Indiana Hoosiers
3. John Thompson III, Georgetown Hoyas
4. Frank Martin, Kansas State Wildcats
5. Dave Rice, UNLV Runnin’ Rebels
6. Tony Bennett, Virginia Cavaliers

Agree? Disagree? Let’s hear it, baybeee.

I would like to see Davis start developing an inside game other than alley oops.

Unfortunately, the only way Cal will ever get COY is to win the whole thing. Even then, they would give it to a Crean or the like who is overachieving at this point.

Gotta give COY to Crean as of right now.

Who is that guy on the bottom left with the buzz cut? The camera has focused on him nearly every game for the past few seasons. Is he the camera man’s buddy or somethinhg?

POY: Robinson….when we beat KU I wished we had him instead of TJ.

DDOY: Gilchrist/Davis…how can you pick one over the other?

COY: Crean. Who thought they’d beat us AND OSU in the same season? He does a lot with not very much. They just play hard for 40 minutes. That is why they win. If we played as hard as IU we’d win every game by 40 with our talent. We aren’t there yet, but it will come!

Chane Behannan is not on any list. Why? He clearly said Uofl would go undefeated. His play proved that correct, lol.

Tony Wroten was BEGGIN to come here….and Cal says nope…nope…I want Teague… look @ us……Wroten is killing it out west…..the worst decison Cal has made ever!!!

I am one of those people that believe Cal doens’t get the respect he deserves. I do not believe anyone in the country could do what he has done the last 3 years. He takes an almost completely new team every year and makes them one of the best in the country. He molds these young men into a great team and they perform at the highest level. He could lose as many as 7 players off this current team and, I’ll bet, next year he’ll have the Cats near the top again.

This is the same Vitale who openly campaigned on national TV to guide Patterson to Duke. Wouldn’t piss on him if he was on fire.

#13…the 3.3 assist to 4.3 turnover ratio for a 8-5 team with a loss to North Dakota is not “tearing it up”. I would still take Teague over him to learn how to RUN a team!! Wroten is on the list because he is a frosh averaging 17pts a game

Cal had very good reasons for not recruiting Wroten Kevin Willard should go on COY list.

#16 you’ve got it right. Vitale is an A-1 asshole. His hysterics over the prospect of Billy donovan coming to Kentucky should forever earn him the animus of every UK fan.
