Dick Vitale questions Louisville’s schedule

We won’t talk about Louisville barely sneaking past College of Charleston in the Yum! Center last night. Not doing it. We won’t mention Louisville trailing by four at the half or eight with 15 minutes left in the game. Not happening. We won’t even suggest that Louisville could’ve lost if not for a pretty big collapse by College of Charleston in crunch time. That just wouldn’t be right.

But we will laugh at Dick Vitale calling out the Dirty Birds out on Twitter:

Burn.

Point blank. Period.

I am waiting until Dec. 31 on this one so we can prove it on the court. Not to give the trolls any ammunition but the UL of strength of schedule is actually slightly better than ours. We have definitely played some tougher opponents than little brother but the bad teams we have played drag our SOS way down.

Hard to believe U of L schedule to date has been stronger then UK’s….but by the same token…UK has had 1 true road game to date. Most top programs do the same thing…so not sure why anyone would start that argument. IU hosting Howard and winning by 57 is a joke, IMO. Their RPI is like 313 out of 340?? Embarrassing as an IU fan.

My UL friends argue and try to justify their struggling wins over Ohio, Memphis, CofC, etc. While our SOS is only slightly better than UL’s at the moment, we have played 3-4 respectful opponents (UNC, IU, KU, and St. John’s). Yes, IU was not ranked when they beat us but they are now and likely will be at the season’s end, which as far as RPI goes, is all that will matter. I’d rather lose to a team unranked that should be, then a team that is ranked but shouldn’t be. To put things into perspective, CofC beat Chattanooga by 2. UK by 12-15 on December 31.

  16. Zman
    11:46 am December 21, 2011 Permalink

This sounds fine and dandy from DV. But, as a guy who follows the RPI(always looking toward March Madness) they have us beat. Yes we have played many more away games but most our opponets are less than stellar. We have played 3 top 100 teams they have played 6. Then we have played 7 teams with an RPI of 150 and higher while they have played 4. So, yes they are playing an early schedule like they have anklets on and can’t leave the state but let’s not say we play a schedule like Long Beach State.

you guys are analyzing this worse than us girls would. He is simply making fun of them for playing all but 1 game at Yum at this point in the season. We have only played 1 true road game, but we have played at more places than Rupp…like in NY, CT, and IN. Geez fellas, he isn’t talking SOS or anything else.

  21. MadvilleMaroon

    19. Hes talking about the entire season, and was actually taking up for Louisville. Bad when you dont even understand when somepne supports you. LAstly, Vitale is ONLY talking about the pre-conference. UK traveled to Conn and NYC and IU, and UL traveled 2 hours north ONE time. The rest of their games are at home. That is what he means

Best seed ul has played is memphis at 6-9 range. Because u play a 14-16 seed at home does not mean much. UK has played 3 teams that all have final four potential!

The schedule argument is a dumb one to make. I just went to ESPN and pulled both UK and UofL’s schedule and UK has 4 games left
against teams currently in the top 25, UofL has 8 games left – including Syracuse twice.

We won’t even mention the fact that Kentucky only has one true road game in its first 18 games. No way. We also won’t mention the fact that we told everyone that Terrance Jones will be the best college basketball player in the world this year, just because our coach said it. Did we mention that the same coach that said that is widely condisered as the biggest scumbag in sports not named Sandusky? Nope. Not talking about.

Why the hell is he bringing up the entire season? This is all pre-conference jabber. Once that season starts, you play who you play…but pre-conference…teams have control…IU has had 3 non home games (1 neutral). UK has had 3 neutral and 1 true away….UL? not sure, but it is a dumb argument…the top tier teams don’t schedule medium road games…there is no point. Teams like Butler and the Zags do it because they have to. I guess MSU Spartans could be considered a decent scheduler…

  40. BigBlueHaters

He also said UNC would beat yall on a neutral floor too! If yall would have stayed at RUPP, you might ne undefeated right now too! UK fans, you love him…you hate him…you love him….you hate him! Make your effing minds up! Does it really bother you all that much that we are undefeated! We can schedule easier teams in the begining of our schedule, we have the number one team on our schedule home and away, we have four teams in the top ten and six in the top twenty five! Yea we are gonna beat Vandy and College Of charleston, long beach state, Memphis all who beat UT, because we don’t get to play teams like that in our conference schedule, we play ranked teams once and twice a week!

    37. Did he admit his mistakes? Did he apologize to his players, fans and most importantly his family? There are many famous people that have done what he did, lots of them would never admit it or apologize to anyone. Has Cal apologized to UMass or Memphis? Because of the players he recruited, both programs had to suffer. He hasn’t apologized and he will not ever, he knows he can just throw his player under the bus. Players first program!

If Louavull played Ohio U and College of Charleston anywhere else besides the Dum Center, they would have lost. G. Dieng over the back 10 times, R Smith and P Siva grabbing arms everytime someone gets by them, C Behanan gets crossed over and falls down – charge on a 160 lb guard called. 44 – Who said anything about the SEC? Did I claim the SEC to be the greatest basketball conference ever assembled? Don’t think so. Really 45? What did he have to apologize for? For Camby going and getting money from an agent? As far as the Rose situation goes, the NCAA Cleared him to play, then after the final four they said he didn’t qualify. Not even your Pitino would’ve sat a player like Rose after the NCAA cleared him to play. Before you argue anything, you might want to get your facts straight. And as throwing a kid under the bus, who was it he threw there? In the 8 or 9 years Pitino has revolked the scholarships of at least 3 players HE RECRUITED because he needed room to recruit better players. Now that’s throwing a player under the bus, backing up and running over him again.
51, Keep wearing that greasy assed bucket on your head, it looks good on you!

  52. Corn Flakes Keep Me Regular
    3:17 pm December 21, 2011 Permalink

    52. Who recruited Camby? Cal. Even if Cal didnt know (LOL), Cal put the program in the position by signing a questionable recruit. Ultimately, it happened under his watch.

As far as Rose, he scored a 12 or something extremely poor on his ACT. Then he scores a 20? If Cal didn’t figure something shady was going on, then he is a fool. The NCAA discovered all of this after they cleared him, they wouldn’t make the opposite ruling and take away games if they didn’t know that the university or Cal knew what was going on.

Either way; both programs were left in shambles as Cal moved to greener pastures without any guilt or apology. Integrity? Ha.

Okay UK fans, You want to talk about Strength of Schedule. Here are a few facts. In the current Realtimerpi.com
    U of L’s schedule is ranked 69, UK’s is ranked 175.
U of L has played 6 teams ranked in Top 100, While UK has played 3 teams in the Top 100
U of L has played 2 teams ranked 101-200, while UK has also played 2
U of L has played 2 teams ranked 201-300, While UK has played 3
U of L has played 1 team ranked over 301, while UK has played 3

CHECK OUT REALTIMERPI.COM if you don’t believe it. It’s all there!!!!

So get off your high horse, UK schedule is weak and then they get the even weaker SEC!! By the end of the season U of L will have a TOP 10 schedule and UK will be hovering around 70.

56 Let’s talk top 25, not Sos. Because let’s be honest…playing teams in the top 100 – 200+ really doesn’t mean a dang thing past the first 25 or so. So out of the teams ranked in the top 25 right now, who has played more…UK or Lville? And don’t cry about teams that were/were not ranked at the time of the game bc we all know rankings don’t mean anything in early Nov but as the weeks go on they mean a lot more bc we know more about the teams. In Oct/Nov rankings are a guess. They still don’t mean much in Dec but they mean more right now than they did yesterday or any day before that. So, as of now, who has played the best teams out of the top 25 teams in the country?

53 – hmm…good point…that is strange seeing as though the fattest city in the state is Louisville and Cal doesn’t live there. Fattest, not phattest. Lexington is the most sedentary, but somehow Louisville is still filled w fatter asses. I wonder how that could be? Could it have anything to do w Louisville being funded by KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and Papa Johns?

60 – By the end of the year what does SOS do for you? Do you get a #1 seed in the tourney due to SOS? If by the end of the year Lville has 10 more losses than us but a better SOS, what the hell does that get them? I’ll tell ya what it gets them…bounced from the 1st round of the tourney by a mid-major.

  58. Truth/Opinion

62 – “good teams” is debatable. Some would argue that the Big East is overrated, so UofL doesn’t really play that many good teams. I know, the Big East is the best ever in the whole wide world! That’s why half the BE teams that make it to the tourney get beat in the first 2 rounds…bc they are so dominant! Barkley said it best…Itty Bitty East. Oh yeah I know…UConn won the championship, they are the conference’s saving grace. But let’s not forget that UConn is on reduced scholarships due to cheating, yet all Loserville fans want to do is cry about Cal “cheating”

It’s not UL’s fault that two preseason top 10 teams on the schedule have sucked. But before the season started you had

    Vandy – Top 10 HOME
    Memphis – Top 10 HOME
    Kentucky – Top 3 AWAY

That’s not bad any year. Plus watch where Ohio and C of C end up in March.
