Dick Vitale Gala to honor UK

One of the biggest non-basketball events of the college basketball calendar year takes place in Sarasota, Florida each spring when ESPN’s Dick Vitale puts his shouting to good use and hosts the Dick Vitale Gala for Cancer Research.  Each year, college basketball coaches and sports celebrities put on their Sunday best and raise money for pediatric cancer research.  This year’s event will have a special relevance to Kentucky fans, though, as Vitale will honor Coach Cal and UK as basketball’s all-time winningest program at the charity event, along with Roy Williams and tennis coach Nick Boletierri (whose wife is a UK grad).  The event isn’t until May, so you can feel free to start saving the $1,000 for a ticket now.  All of the info is here.

On a related note, Mark Krebs will host a “DREAM Pink” night in Louisville tomorrow night at the ZirMed Gateway Tower Sky Loft.  The tickets for the event are $45 and include a copy of his book, cocktails, drinks and entertainment.  The proceeds will benefit the Louisville Susan G. Komen affiliate.
