Sometimes you have to wonder what Matt Jones thought when he created this website. Did he think he would turn that into a radio show, TV show, Outside the Lines appearance, Boone’s Butcher Shop endorsement, and outkicking his coverage in the love department? I can tell you one thing: he certainly did not think it would ever turn into him having the chance to meet wrestling “legend” Diamond Dallas Page at something called ScareFest 2010. I won’t give away too much because much of the footage will be used on the upcoming TV show, but it was quite odd to walk into Rupp Arena before a basketball game, wonder into something that made me feel like the cool guy in the room, and then proceed to setup an interview between Drew Franklin and DDP. As a sidenote, DDP did say that he was cool with Ramel stealing his diamond hand sign, but I think deep down it bothered him. Onto things that don’t involve steroids:
-College basketball officially kicked off tonight, with 4th ranked Pittsburgh squeaking by Rhode Island in what has been called the 6th loudest arena in America. I don’t know if that is accurate or not, but I can tell you with certainty that Pitt is not the 4th best team in the country. Kentucky has a chance to prove itself as not the 10th best team in the country when they take on ETSU Friday night. As Matt mentioned earlier, this is not some slam dunk win for the Cats. ETSU returns 4 senior starters, an injured player that UK did not see in the tournament last year, and UK continues to break in a ton of new people. Plus UK has a history with early season letdowns, cough….cough…..Gardner-Webb, VMI, Western Kentucky, Miami (OH), etc.
-On the football side of things, 2 major stories reverberating around Big Blue Nation. The health of Derrick Locke for the closing 2 games is very important. UK has been limited to throwing the football more than they would like against Georgia and Mississippi State, and despite some signs of life from Russell, Williams, and Sanders, without Locke in the backfield, UK may be leaning heavily on the Heisman arm of Mike Hartline on Saturday.
-Also, lots of talk about the bowl picture for the Cats. Whether or not Kentucky can win 1 or 2 games the rest of the season will not likely affect their bowl destination. What will affect it is whether or not LSU can get into a BCS game. If the Tigers miss out, it is likely to the Birmingham Bowl. If the Tigers can make it, it could be Music City or Liberty. Unfortunately with Georgia likely the team right ahead of them, Music City may be out of the question too. Unless the SEC steps in, we could see a UK-UL basketball and UK Bowl Game double on New Years Eve.
-Hey Blue Hairs, I get you paid your money, which makes you think you can keep your fat butt in the seat the entire game. But how does it feel to have Kansas AND Duke ranked ahead of you on that list of loudest arenas? Feel good? Because you are what keeps UK from being #1 in that too. I sit in my seat quietly waiting for your answer.
-Rajon Rondo, double digit assists. Yawn.
-There is now a somewhat legit possibility that Boise State will not even make a BCS game if they run the table. I get the argument against them making the national title, although TCU might get in with an Auburn loss. But, for that team, clearly one of the 5 best in the country, to not even get one of the TEN BCS slots is absurd, and shows the absolute joke that is college football bowl system.
Good stuff all day on the site. Not that I know that for sure because my 10AM post will likely be the next one posted, and frankly 2 straight posts from me usually signifies the start of a bad day here at KSR. But I am sure Matt and Co. will be around the save the day with posts about Enes’ lunch order, the tackling skills of one Winston Guy, and we may just eliminate somebody from the blogger contest. And by eliminate I mean just tell them their entry this round was not very good and their next one should be better. Lastly, if anyone has seen Kate Martin, tell her we said hey, and Will Lentz doesn’t like that he has to make everybody breakfast now.
