Dez Wells Leaves Lexington; Unlikely to Come to UK

Dez Wells’ visit to Kentucky has ended and he is on his way to visit Memphis. With that decision, it now becomes more unlikely he ends up a Wildcat. With Kentucky’s academic calendar, Wells really needed to get enrolled on Friday in order to get into classes in time to be a part of the team this coming season, either as a transfer or to be eligible under a waiver. However, the team and Wells ended up not on the same page by the end of the visit, Wells decided to take more visits and now the likelihood of him in Lexington decreases drastically. Unless something changes this weekend, chances are high that Wells ends up at a school not named Kentucky.

Its a shame, because he is a good player and would have been a good addition to the program. Wells may not be a fan of the fact that he likely would end up an 8th man on the team at UK (especially if he doesnt get eligible this year) and that likely played a part in his decision to take other visits. If you are a Dez Wells fan, hope that a reversal of course takes place soon or expect to see him in another uniform.

He had to leave at some point, right? Did we expect him to visit and enroll in class the next day? I don’t get how you came to this conclusion. You must know more than you are letting on.

Honestly this is probably best for us. We don’t need him nor the baggage he comes with. Didnt he rape a girl? Or beat up his mom or something? Only allegations but regardless…

i’d guess that the large chunk of his visit was spent working with admissions to see if they could get him enrolled or not. when it became clear that it was going to be difficult, dez probably needs to check out other options to cover his bases.

Dez’ departure is in the best interest of Dez – and, more important, that of the KENTUCKY program.

“Dez is so SICK he is gonna be NASTY in a UK uniform!””

“Its really good thing Cal didnt want him. I mean, he was a rapist right?”

He probably already enrolled at UK and has that process started. Cal always wants guys he recruits to take their visits AND in a situation like this(rape allegedly!) the more schools recruiting him the better for us in terms of media perception. Acuuse us and you can point fingers at all the other interest in a delicate situation. It’s probably a done deal and he is just going through the motions FOR LOOKS purposes. I expect him to be a Cat by Monday and in class.

If there is no chance, it is ashame. I am afraid our lack of players may catch up this year.

He would put us in much better shape for a championship if he got to play this season.

Pretty disappointing to hear if it’s true. This kid is a straight baller and would’ve had an immediate impact player whether it’s this year or next. He got completely thrown under the bus by an administration that has no balls and had a knee jerk reaction because they screwed up in the past. Dez is a high character guy who would fit right in with Cal’s system. Anyone who says they don’t want him is a complete moron.

#15 – guess you think I’m a moron. How does “high character” fit in with being suspended for 3 games for fighting on the court? Although, I do wonder what would have happened if Aminu Timberlake had decided to fight when he was stepped on by Lattener!

I still think he ends up at UK. He probably promised visits to the schools and wanted to balance out the “recruitment” do they don’t think he jumped the gun on this. I think we still get him. Not worried.

Character be damned! It has nothing to do with his character. He could be on probation and Cal would sign him if he thought he would get to plat next year. Somebody please check the guys past, not just the fight. But it doesn’t matter,Cal can sign no wrong, and if someone goes somewhere else, then they are a criminal, glad we didn’t get him..sound familiar???? Flame away if you want, unlike Cal the god, inventor of UK basketball.

That guy got shafted by his school and his coach wouldn’t even stand up for him. I can guarantee that wouldn’t happen on Cal’s watch. I just hope he doesn’t go to UL the last thing he needs is the guidance of someone like RickyP.

Please explain how you go to this conclusion. He has, per the NCAA rule, until the schools’ 12th day of class to enroll and be able to be eligible this year. UK’s 12th day of class is not until next Friday.

As a Xavier student it pains me to see anyone bash Dez Wells. He hit his mother? Who are you hearing this from? After seeing his involvement on our campus especially in comparison to other more “thuggish” players on our team it is crazy to think he would not help another team with his presence alone. He won most influential player at our basketball banquet…as a Freshman! He had a bogus sexual assault (not rape) charge, and the school freaked out. He would be great at UK! As far as the fight, what player on either team wasn’t involved in some way? He was not an instigator, but rather defended his teammates.

It seems as though there are two schools of thought on this site:

    1. Dez Wells is already a lock for Kentucky, because the Wildcat fans want him and assume they are always in the lead.
    2. If Dez Wells goes elsewhere, it is because Kentucky was too good for him and Calipari wasn’t interested.

This is why everyone thinks Kentucky fans are a joke. Get a life, stop making up rumors, and just let the process play out.

To #23, I think the kid is a great player and don’t think dismissed charges should be held against him, but I’m pretty sure he was the first player to hit or push anyone in the brawl. He may not have been talking trash, but he was the one who escalated it. That being said, I don’t mind a kid who gets a little overzealous time to time, its unlikely he’ll ever do anything similar again.

If you’re going to make comments about the kid being a rapist, get the facts straight. A Hamilton County grand jury looked into the charges and found them without merit, and the case was dropped. The prosecutor in the case took the unusual step of speaking out about the way Xavier treated Wells when they dismissed him well before the case was ever reviewed. Prosecutor Joe Deters called the process “fundamentally unfair” and added, “I think (Xavier President) Father (Michael) Graham is one of the most impressive, fair people I’ve ever met and I hope he has the ability to look at this and correct an injustice.”

Too late, the ship has sailed. Wells isn’t going back, unless it’s to sue the university for damaging his reputation.

The Friday deadline to enroll in classes is artificial. A dean could always waive the deadline to get him in…if indeed he wants in. The question is when he’d be eligible.
