Dexter Strickland has a big mouth

UNC’s Dexter Strickland is healthy and wants to talk about it. In fact, he thinks that had all the Tar Heels been healthy last season, the National Championship would be theirs, not Kentucky’s. From Jeff Goodman:

I asked him whether he still thought about how everything might have been different last season if Kendall Marshall and he had been on the court for the NCAA tournament — and John Henson had been healthy as well.

“All the time,” he said. “I’ll be honest. If nobody got hurt, you might as well have given us the trophy. Nobody had the ability to stop us.”

Hey Dexter, if I remember right, the Cats beat you even when you were healthy. And Kendall Marshall. And John Henson. But if it makes you feel better, you just keep talking.

Can’t stand him. Or Bullock, or Hairston. They all have huge mouths. UNC is severely overrated this season, starting a freshman PG and C that were not highly ranked.

Kansas, Iowa St, UNC, IU, UL – why won’t their players just realize we beat them? Out of all of them, only IU managed to knock us off earlier in the season (when we had less experience, you know) and it took a buzzer beater to do it.

There are a lot of years when woulda coulda shoulda can apply. But last year when our super team was there, that was not one of those years.

So, the 2011-12 Cats are now down to #3 in the final standings….

    1) Kansas – just ran out of time
    1a) UNC – injured players
    3) UK – championship banner

Maybe we’ll get them this year to make up for the bitter, bitter disappointment of winning the national championship last year.

UNC had a great team with Marshall, and they may very well have won it all. But they didn’t. Bobby ‘good’ Knight made the excuse that if Scott May had not broken his wrist Indiana would have beaten the Cats in 1975 and won it all. But they didn’t. With Derek Anderson we probably would have won in 1997. But we didn’t. That is life, so let the poor folks down at UNC exert their first amendment rights.

    12:24 pm October 19, 2012 Permalink

These Tarhole comments do not bode well for Kentucky. Now that I think about it we should take down the banner and give it to UNC. After all, we only beat them by 1 at home. Everybody knows home court is worth six points, so they really should have beaten us by five. Furthermore, that means we actually beat IU by five on the road. Without that loss we wouldn’t have had so much to prove and we would have probably dropped several other games. However, after dropping several other games we would have learned from that and we would have beaten Vandy in the SEC tournament championship game. As George Jefferson AND the guy on kentucky basketball forum put it, “beans don’t fry on the grill”. Could have, would have, should have, did not.

What do you expect the guy to say? It is the easiest thing in the world to say(impossible to negate), and you knew it was going to happen. We’re only giving the guy a “bigger mouth” by posting the garbage here….especially when it is Jeff Goodman piece in which he’s quoted. I perennially root for the Yankees and the Lakers to lose, for obvious reasons….all the money and showtime in the world…who needs them? But I’ve had to admit lately that under Calapari Kentucky has become the “evil empire” of college basketball…..we have everything, we’re on top, and there is no rational reason to go anywhere else….all things that I love and cherish…..so, Jeff Goodman, Dexter Strickland and others feel like they’ve got to do or say something….who cares? Strickland came out of high school a highly rated prospect with John Wall….and he’s still at UNC trying to make it to the promised land….the guy should be bitter….let him….we we’re all there in 97 & 03 and we don’t talk about that….because we don’t need to talk about it. He and Jeff Goodman do……ignore it!

If we had lost Lamb for the year, Teague for the NCAA tourney and Davis had to play through a fractured wrist during the dance – and a healthy UNC went on to win the national championship – we’d all probably be thinking like Strickland and the UNC fanbase. If you’re confident in your abilities as Strickland is, how could you not? It’s a shame they had to endure all those injuries because a UNC/Kentucky championship would have been epic, and as a fan, the what-if game drives me crazy having played it several times throughout the years (DA, Bogans, Meeks, Kanter etc). I’m definitely thankful we haven’t been hit with the injury bug since Cal arrived on campus, and I’m hoping we can get through another season injury-free. Lord knows we can’t afford one this season.
