Derek Dooley fired, will not coach against Kentucky

The long-anticipated news broke this morning that Derek Dooley has been fired as the head coach of the Tennessee football program. The announcement will officially be made at a press conference at 2:00 this afternoon. As a result, Dooley will NOT be coaching against Kentucky next Saturday in the season finale. Some Tennessee fans might say he didn’t really coach in the Kentucky game last year either.

Does this increase Joker Phillips’ chance of a second win in a row against Tennessee next week?

The irony of Joker being let go yet being the only coach to beat Tennessee in back to back years since 1976 is almost unpalatable. Not saying it’s the wrong decision, but wow. Sure would be a nice memento for his scrapbook.

It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out. Strong and Jones are going to want out of Louisville and Cincinnati, respectively, especially considering that Rutgers is bolting for the Big 10. Strong is definitely a candidate for Auburn, Arkansas, and Tennessee, but it is not clear if Jones would be. I don’t think an SEC team will take on Petrino. It’s not so much the affair as it is his using the University’s payroll as a slush fund.

I’m hoping for Butch Jones. He has been as good at Cincinnati as Strong at Louisville, assuming Louisville loses to Rutgers next week. 2-1against Strong with the loss coming in OT in a game where Louisville was outplayed.

Don’t be fooled.. Kentucky beating Tennessee says a lot more about where the TN program is than it says about the UK program

Agree TDOGG. Now it gets interesting to who gets the first hire of the bottom three SEC teams. I say we end up with a up and coming coach over an experienced coach.

I’ll bet UT won’t take weeks or months to make a decision on their next hire.Unlike UK,they probably got a ton of applicants as soon as the word got out about Dooley.

Mitch will probably take another two or three months before reaching a decision,or should i say finding someone desperate enough to want the UK job.

At the rate James Franklin is getting college football coaches fired these days, he’ll have a spot in the Obama Administration waiting for him if he ever grows tired of coaching football.

If Joker really cares about the community, he should return about $100,000 of that $2.5 million payout so the groups that run the concessions at Commonwealth Stadium can be paid back. A lot of those groups run the concessions and the proceeds go to their organizations, many very charitable, and because of Joker’s rough year, most fans stayed away from Commonwealth – thus depriving them of needed income. Joker needs to do the right thing and turn some money over to these groups. It wasn’t their fault that the fans didn’t show up.

According to CBS Sports, both Arkansas and Tennessess are trying to get Jon Gruden to return to coaching. Might be a bidding war. Meanwhile, UK, Petrino is there for the taking.

Kim, would that be considered redistribution of wealth? Nice…..
Hopefully joker will receive unemployment benefits as well. These groups took on the risk, there was no reward. Our family has worked Derby weekends at the track and we knew going in that there was never a promise of attendance, thus allowing profitability

27 – Joker already gives back A LOT to the community. He doesn’t need people like you who were too cheap with your own money to tell him what to do with his. If you feel so bad for those people than get mad at the fans for not supporting the players. Its very easy to be a BANDWAGON fan…..everyone wants to go to games when the team plays well, but when they lose you get the “ive supported the team for 50 years” BS so Im not supporting them anymore. Well stay at home than fairweather fan.

How can you all seriously want Petrino so badly? We have had our experience with low-moral guys before and look how that turned out. Also, can you really not remember all of the absolutely terrible things the man said about the University of Kentucky? You want that coaching a University you all love? I don’t think so. Secondly, get off of Mitch’s back, for God’s sake. What are you accomplishing by constantly bitching? If you love UK and want success then shut up and get behind whoever is hired. Show up to the games and stop being fair weather fans. Let our AD do his job and do what fans are supposed to do, SUPPORT THE PROGRAM.

It is absolutely disgusting that we have fans around this program who shame us all by being so ignorant and negative. We all wanted a change. We got it. Now be happy and hopeful and think before you hide behind your computers and trash people who are doing all they can to make you happy and win football games.

Kim (27), maybe you should use some hard work or creativity to enhance your fund raising in this diffiicult time rather than asking for a handout from someone who owes you zilch. That gig is an OPPORTUNITY to raise some funds, not a guarantee.

Read this carefully. Joker owes you ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. You had a fund raising opportunity and it didn’t work out as well as you hoped. Joker had a job hat didn’t work out like he hoped. Stay out of other people’s pockets and finances. Joker can do anything he wants with his money.

@KY_Buckeye Rich Rod to Tenn hahaha why would he leave Arizona a team that was 4-8 last year… that in his first season has them at 7-4 ranked No.24 BCS and with a brand new $90 Million stadium project going on and lets not forget that Arizona is in the PAC-12 that has 451 National Championships in every sport we are the conference of champions. Rich Rod found his home and its in Arizona.

BTW he has some great company in mens sports the baseball team just won a National chapmionship(over SEC), and the Mens Basketball team is back to elite status ranked @ no.11 and is a final four contender.

Derek Dooley will not coach the game

This will be Joker Phillips final game as coach

This will motivate Kentucky to send him out with a victory which I think they will do.

    My Prediction:

    Kentucky Wildcats 28

    Tennessee Volunteers 14

Kentucky wins at Tennessee by 14 points/2 Touchdowns

Kentucky finishes 1-7 in the SEC 3-9 overall, Tennessee finishes 0-8 in the SEC and 4-8 overall, and Auburn to upset Alabama making Tennessee the only winless team in the SEC

    And with all of that….

The Tennessee Volunteers collapse will be complete!

    Dooley’s gone, Brey is next!
