Dear Diary…

Okay, it’s time for me to come clean. What you, the readers of this site, may or may not know, is that Jared Carter is one of my best friends. In fact, on a friend scale, Jared ranks above Bryan the Intern and probably just below Sam Waterston of Law and Order. Yes, that high. Jared and I have been through a lot together over the last four years, and during that time he’s proven to be one of the greatest people I have ever known. Also, I keep a diary of what happens each day — and in preparation of this post, I have recently gone back through the last four years of my diary entries to illustrate the many great times Jared and I have shared together. I’ve selected some choice entries here, for your perusal, and in celebration of Jared’s Senior Night.

Dear Diary,
Hung out with Jared today, always a great time. Went to the batting cage, then swung by Rally’s, picked up food, brought it back and watched Krippendorf’s Tribe, quoting our favorite lines all the way through. We laughed and laughed. Awesome day.

Dear Diary,
Was in a bit of a pickle today. Couldn’t get the cereal off the top shelf. Called Jared and he came over and retrieved it for me. Always a friend when I need him most.

Dear Diary,
Spring cleaning day! I swept the floors and Jared came over and cleaned the dust off the ceiling fans. Then he reached up through the fireplace and fixed a shingle on the roof for me. It’s good to have great friends.

Dear Diary,
Funny story today — Jared and I were on our way to the gym and there was a traffic light out at the corner of Alumni and Tates Creek Road. I was really frustrated because it just kept blinking. Jared got out of the car and banged on the traffic light a few times and it started working again. Problem solved!

Was in New York with Jared and we thought it would be funny to go down and make faces behind Al Roker on the Today Show. Fun times. Hung around in the city that night and Jared placed the star on top of the tree at Rockefeller Center.

Jared and I were watching the sun set this evening and a plane flew overhead. Waxing philosophically, I asked him where he thought that plane might be headed, and wouldn’t it be cool to be on it. Jared reached into the sky and grabbed the plane and set it on the ground, I got in and he put the airplane back in the sky. It was only going to Atlanta.

Big science news today as researchers are trying to find out if there is water on Mars. I asked Jared what he thought and he told me to see for myself. He lifted me up into outer space and put me right next to the surface of Mars. I think I saw water!

Averted a major catastrophe today! Apparently, radioactive testing in eastern Kentucky spawned a giant lizard who rampaged through downtown Lexington. After a lengthy battle, Jared defeated him by punching him out of our solar system. The Radisson will have to be rebuilt, but the city was saved. Thankfully!

Senior Night for Jared! A special hole was cut into the ceiling of Rupp Arena for the event, and when Jared’s name was called, a giant hand came from above and shook tiny President Todd’s hand. Then Jared flew up to the sun and it became nighttime. The stars were magnificent. I couldn’t be prouder of my good friend!

See? I told you we were best friends. It’s senior night for our big man, and we here at KSR offer our respect. As most guys know, sometimes the funniest and most stinging barbs are reserved for those we love, and Jared’s taken some ribbing here over the years. But we kid because we care, and to our knowledge the mighty Carter’s taken it all in good nature.

No matter the minutes, no matter the box scores, Jared Carter is a Wildcat. That places him in an elite company few of us will ever know. And for that, he’ll always be remembered. Godspeed, Jared. And good luck.
