DeAndre Liggins has a mentor

As soon as DeAndre Liggins entered his name in the NBA Draft, he was drawing comparisons to the Grizzlies’ Tony Allen from every scout, analyst, and NBA GM. Even Coach Cal called DeAndre Liggins a “Tony Allen clone.” Now it’s time for DeAndre to prove he can play that Tony Allen-like role for the Orlando Magic and he’s getting help from none other than Tony Allen himself.

Tony Allen is mentoring DeAndre as he prepares for his NBA journey. The two have been text messaging for a while now and they hung out in Chicago before DeAndre flew south to Orlando. “We’re very close,” DeAndre told an Orlando Magic fan blog.

Allen is a guy who had some trouble off the court early in his career, and aside from punching OJ Mayo in the face on the team plane last season (Mayo deserved it), AllenĀ has matured into a solid NBA role player with the Memphis Grizzlies. He was named to the NBA All-Defensive second team last year and his relationship with DeAndre could really help our man make it in the NBA.

I’m sick of people dissing Miller. The guy is a four year representative of UK. He has played on an Elite 8 team as well as a Final Four team. He will probably join the 1000 point club this year and has a good chance to make it back to the Final Four. Oh yeah, he also has a Gold Medal from the USA U-19 team. You want more? He has performed in the classroom and has not been in any trouble on or off the court. He is what is right with UK basketball, get with it people. Knocking guys who give their all for the Blue and for you, the fans, is ridiculous. Go Darius, Go Big Blue!

    7) tony allen is a nut and a headcase..he is only a decent basketball player who shoots way to many threes for what he makes…he is a good defender though…i don’t understand why any one would want tony allen to be their mentor…emulating his style of play is a different story, but mentor?…i don’t think so

    8) you used the word mentor 2 times…i used it 0. if the person that liggins is aiming to play like is reaching out and supporting him in that process then how can that be a bad thing? the words emulate, support and guidance were all in reference to basketball…if he needs a life coach, he’s got a big family fully capable of providing help with that in the form of cal, and his fellow wildcats…………
