Day Three at the SEC Tournament Running Diary

Welcome to Day Three of the SEC Tournament! This afternoon’s games are Florida vs. LSU, and Tennessee vs. Alabama at 3:30 p.m. ET. Follow along as we keep you abreast of all the happenings courtside, while we hope that the people whose seats we’ve stolen don’t show up.

On with the show!

UPDATE: For those of you still wondering, Jerry Tipton carries three pads of paper with him at all times. #oldschool

(1:42 p.m.) Mrs. Tyler: Alright folks, this game is ridiculously terrible. Florida is ahead by more than 30 points. I’m going to wrap this live diary up for now and get ready for Tennessee/Alabama. Stay tuned!

(1:32 p.m.) Mrs. Tyler: I agree, Willie:

(1:22 p.m.) Mrs. Tyler: Here’s a fun game: how many pads of paper does Jerry Tipton carry around with him at one time? I’ll be back with the answer shortly.

(1:13 p.m.) Mrs. Tyler: Well folks, we are well on our way to blowout city. Florida currently leads by 22 points. My attention has now turned to the Florida mascot, who is oddly kind of sleazy. He just made a somewhat inappropriate gesture with one of the band’s trombones. Come to think of it, Mike the Tiger is too. Our Cat has never seemed so wholesome.

(12:59 p.m.) Mrs. Tyler: The halftime shows at the Tournament consist of giving an SEC Legend their commemorative clock, dance team performances, and little kids shooting free throws for Sunkist prize packs. The LSU Dance Team continues to impress with their moves and multiple costume changes. Seriously, I’m starting to think they brought more clothes to the Tournament than I have in my closet. Oh, you want a picture? Of course you do:

Something tells me the guy in front of me isn’t taking that picture to upload to a running diary.

(12:51 p.m.) Mrs. Tyler: And it’s halftime! Florida leads LSU 43-28. The Tigers hung in there early, but Florida’s offense is just too good. For you halftime entertainment, I have uploaded the CATS Chant that closed today’s radio show at the Wildhorse Saloon. Let these little girls get you pumped for tonight’s game (and please excuse my shaky camera work).

(12:36 p.m.) Mrs. Tyler: Someone asked how many Florida fans are in attendance. Because this is a fun topic, Les Johns and I decided to break down the crowd currently in attendance.

Kentucky 65%
Tennessee 20%
Florida 5%
Alabama 5%
Pat Forde’s ego 2%
LSU 2%
Missouri 1%

Kentucky plays in 6 hours.

(12:27 p.m.) Mrs. Tyler: With 7 minutes left in the first half, Eric Murphy already has 10 points and 7 rebounds. After the Cats beat Florida last week, Matt made a comparison between him and Kyle Wiltjer, saying that Murphy is a good example of what Wiltjer could be if he played to his fullest potential. Thoughts?

(12:13 p.m.) Mrs. Tyler: Why look, it’s Jerry Tipton and John Clay of the Herald-Leader on the front row of press row!

How did they get such cush seats while I’m stuck back in “Participating Team Electronic Media (visitors)”? Maybe I should go sit next to them and talk journalism ethics?

(12:07 p.m.) Mrs. Tyler: Florida/LSU just tipped off and I am currently the only member of the KSR crew in the house. While we wait for Drew and Matt to show up, let’s get excited about this awesome SEC Tournament matchup…

Stuck at work? Watch the games online here. I promise your boss won’t mind.

I’ve got my tv on BC/Miami, my laptop on Florida/LSU (I don’t get ESPNU), my desktop rotating on other stuff and work, and if I really needed it, my Kindle Fire could pick up another game.

    Good ole March.

    7) If you have Insight cable (or some others), use WatchESPN/ESPN3.

If not, google “ESPNU stream” and start hunting.

    It’s possible BWO/Funchester has a link up.

Just because they are both around 6’10 and white and can shoot threes thats were the comparison ends. Murphy, has so much more lateral movement and foot speed than Kyle. He can move around much more enabling him too defend something Kyle cannot do.

On the subject of SEC tourney attendance, my sources say:

“ESPN reports that ticket prices for the SEC Tournament, which is under way in Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, are down 42 percent on the secondary ticket market.

According to ESPN, StubHub said 47 percent of all ticket sales to 2012 SEC tournament games were to fans living in Kentucky. That figure has dropped to 39 percent this year.”

“According to the Nashville Business Journal, the council knows from past experience that Bridgestone Arena in downtown Nashville, where the Southeastern Conference tournament tipped off on Wednesday, will be dominated by Wildcat Blue.”

A garden gnome plays better D than Wiltjer. He needs to hit the weight room bad to offset his slowness, just get him where he overpowers everyone. or else he is nothing more than a spot up shooter.

Anybody watching March Madness can see UK is in the wrong conference. The SEC just doesn’t take BB serious. Even Flordia they have a top 5 team and very poor fan support. Switching conferences would help our football as well. If UK was in the ACC in football we would be in the upper half instead of the bottom in the SEC.
Just a rant though! No way we would walk away from the money SEC football generates. Plus being 1 of the original members of the SEC brings to much tradition to ever change.

Why would UK want to go to a DYING conference, when UK dominates the SEC in BB.

24, 26 – not to mention playing time in the sec is the biggest recruiting tool we have for football. I say I’d rather see Stoops make us competitive in the best conference in FB, while we prove our worth in BB through OOC schedules and the big dance. Go cats

    42. You act like the Cats are never on TV. They have to be nationally televised as much or more than any other team in the country. It’s a quarterfinal game of what has been a pretty weak SEC this year. To us this is obviously the most important game but to most college basketball fans and to the national networks there are many tmore important games tonight.

Matt, I’ve not missed a televised UK game in 30+ years…so forgive me for not appreciating your flawed reasoning. UK is the reigning NC, and sports media has been following this team ALL YEAR; the “Kentucky NCAA tourney bid” has been talked about more in recent weeks than most top 10 teams. And now they aren’t going to televise the pivotal game that their NCAAT hopes are riding on?? It’s BS…period.

I fear that Murphy is a step quicker than Wiltjer and has a more consistent shot. Not a shooting expert but it seems that Wiltjer is not extending on his shot. Sort of short arming it. I really like Wiltjer and hope he gets it back and continues to grow stronger and consequently quicker.
