The CBS boys released their latest Player and Freshman of the Year projections today, with Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist finding themselves joined at the hip in both of them. The two rank right next to each other in the lists, with Davis coming in one spot ahead of MKG in each after being one spot behind him last week. First, the Player of the Year rankings, in which Davis sits at #5 behind Thomas Robinson, Luke McDermott of Creighton, Jared Sullinger and, for some reason, John Henson:
And here’s what they had to say about the dynamic duo for the frosh rankings, in which they rank 1-2:
1. Anthony Davis, Kentucky (Last Week: 2): 12.8 ppg, 10.3 rpg, 4.6 bpg, 63.9 FG%
Davis has been even more active at both ends over the last four games. He’s shooting 67.6 percent from the field, averaging 16.5 points, 10.5 boards and 5.0 blocks.
2. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Kentucky (Last Week: 1): 13.2 ppg, 7.5 rpg
Kidd-Gilchrist has fallen off a bit on the offensive end in his last three games. He’s averaging just 8.3 points and 6.3 rebounds in that span, also turning it over 13 times.
They go on to note that they expect Marquis Teague to make an appearance in the top ten freshmen list sometime this season, as he has made strides lately, although I doubt that getting called for the flagrant last night will do much to help his cause. Regardless, it seems pretty safe to assume that the National Freshman of the Year is somewhere in Kentucky’s lineup, and if one of them ends up elevating their game enough to take the overall POY trophy, that probably means that UK has reached the next level we’re all hoping they can find.
Now, settle in to watch the ladies beat Tennessee. They tip in an hour.
