David Cutcliffe signs extension at Duke

Well, we can officially cross one name off the list of UK head coaching candidates: David Cutcliffe. Cutcliffe just signed a contract extension with Duke through June 30, 2019.

The news is not surprising; over the past few weeks, Cutcliffe’s name has been mentioned less and less in relation to the UK job, due to either disinterest on his part (he legitimately seems happy at Duke) or a sharp disapproval from the UK fan base when his name was first brought up when the job opened.

I still think we could get him if we wanted him. I do think he is legitimately happy at Duke and has every intention of honoring the contract, but Cutcliffe craves SEC football and IMO would jump at the opportunity to return to any SEC school.

All of that said, Cutcliffe should be very far down Mitch’s list. If you whiff on your first 5-10 targets than maybe you go after him, but he is not a coach that will ignite the fanbase.

Mitch Barnhart will screw up this hire. 100% Guaranteed. I can feel it in my bones.

4 – So im guessing you are part of the Petrino or Bust camp…….and if its not Petrino, you will say that Mitch screwed it up. Also, how do you know that Mitch isn’t pleading with President Eli to hire Petrino, but Eli doesn’t want him??

awesome! what an unbelievably boring hire this guy would have been.

#7 agreed. Barnhart is certainly in a no-win situation. There is no such thing as a hire that would ignite the fan base AND take the job. BBN should remember that just because we throw $$ at somebody doesn’t necessarily make UK a more attractive job. Get real people. History says odds of success here are very small. So Mitch swings for the fences…a smart coach will listen to Arkansas, UT, Cal, maybe Auburn and probably another 4 or 5 offers before he sniffs at the UK job. So, #4, UK’s past (non)history and (non)tradition, lack of resources, recruiting base, blah blah blah will screw up this hire 1,000 times more than Mitch.

No way Kingsbury is being considered to young and risky. I like the Cincy coach after reading up on him and the Falcons OC looks good too. I’m not expect Kirdy or Petrino

Petrino is too risky for even Tennessee and Auburn and we know from their history character has not mattered much to them. That means Petrino will not be a BCS coach this year. Doesn’t this tell you something about the man and how he is viewed by SEC AD’s? It is not just the affair, people, but the corruption involving how he spent the University’s money.

Well, with him off the board Mitch cant screw up the hire with his number one retread, hopefully everyone turns Mitch down where he is left with two options (1) He has no choice to hire the best coach Petrino, or option (2) Which this is the most likely(cause Mitch doesn’t see a sure shot if it bit him in the a$$, see “The Drunken Texan hire) is bring The Joker back.

I think it’s funny that UK has this multi million dollar product(football), yet we have a stipulation that our AD must like you and you have to show the potential to like him back before you get to run this team. Could you imagine a successful company being run like our administration tries to run football? I’m glad we at least have winning as our #1 qualification in basketball.

    Delirious UK Fans,

I am sorry to break so many CATS fan’s hearts. I am currently working on a contract to coach the Dallas Desire of the Lingerie Football League. I feel like this point in my career that this is the fastest way to reach my future endeavors. I honestly was never going to be coach of the Wildcats. Have fun with your new coach (Jones, Dykes, Kingsbury,Ryan, or some other coach ya’ll won’t support). I just got a new Harley, so watch out Dallas here I come.

Does anyone not remember that David Cutcliff had a chance to come to UK and coach Tim Couch, but chose instead to go to Ole Miss to coach Eli Manning and then was pushed out when Eli graduated? Hasn’t beaten anyone of note at Duke.

Gosh diggity dang it. I *hate* hearing how Jon Gruden may being going to Tennessee. And UK admin is still sitting back, diddling around,
doing what seems to be next to nothing. I get the feeling that our next coach is going to be like all the other coaches. Just enough to get us
barely scraping by, and just more years of misery. I hate it! I hate it, hate it, HATE IT! Why do they care SO LITTLE about football? Just
because we ARE college basketball does not mean we have to NEVER have a kick-butt football team. Other schools don’t have to choose?
Ewe Of Hell doesn’t even have to choose! WHY do we always have basketball thrown in our faces as the reason we can have no decent
football team ever? I’m just disgusted at this point, and that disgust comes from the fact that this is actually painful. Why the University
cares so little about football is beyond me. To be in the SEC and actively aggressively NOT create a winning football team is despicable.
Fans are in a lose/lose situation. If we don’t show up and support the team, we’re derided and it’s threatened that if we don’t support
the team, maybe UK shouldn’t have a football team. But if we do show up and support the team, they take our money and keep creating
the same mediocre culture of EXPECTING TO LOSE, year after year after year. Flagship University of the Commonwealth? And this is
how we look at althletics? As “either/or”? How is that “flagship”? How is that “excellence”? How is that something to be proud of?

25 – You do realize don’t you that if UK is pursuing a coach who is currently coaching a college team that they have to wait until he is finished coaching his team during the regular season. The only possible announcements of a coaching hire at this time could have come from hiring a coach who is not currently coaching a team.
