Darryl Collins out for the season

Terrible, terrible, terrible news out of UK football practice… Freshman wide receiver Darryl Collins sustained a knee injury that will keep him out for the season.┬áCollins is one of the promising young stars the staff was excited to see out on the field this season. He was going to see a lot of time at slot receiver. Now Gene McCaskill and EJ Fields will be relied heavily upon.

Collins will now redshirt.

Awful news for him and the team. He was one I was really looking forward to seeing on the field.

According to Jeff Drummond’s Twitter “Joker said Collins was on the verge of breaking into their rotation, but wasn’t a sure thing to play.”

Is it me, or have E.J. Fields and Gene McCaskill been on the team for about 7 seasons?

I doubt EJ Fields will be playing in the slot. He is a fast but skinny WR. He is not built to go over the middle. McCaskill and (hopefully) Boyd will be the slot guys we need this year.
