Darius One-Ups Himself and the Cats Home Streak

millerclap

This was a fun/huge/much-needed win. We all know that we have been much better at home than on the road, but beating the team who leads the SEC East and getting revenge for our prior road loss really helps our team as we hit the closing stride of the season. It was great to watch Brandon Knight claim a win over his Florida friends. Remembering the look on Darius’ face once nailing the huge three pointer after his big-time-hustle rebound, it is easy to share in the great sigh of relief that this win allows us.

The game started off as a back and forth battle. DeAndre Liggins blew up on the sidelines in the thick of the first half, as Matt noted. Frustrated with the way the game was going, Cal chastised his antics, which were over the top. But, he almost immediately went back into the game. The Cats clawed back and forth with the 13th-ranked Gators, and found themselves ahead going into the second half, 34-33.

Another tale of two halves ensued. The good guys finally burst through, stretching the lead to 58-49 due to the great play of Darius Miller and crew. The most memorable play of the game occurred when Darius chased down an offensive rebound, flying up to take it away from a Florida defender. The pure heart and hustle of that play allowed Darius to be rewarded with a Florida-dream-killing three pointer merely a few seconds later. And with that, Kentucky basically won the game.

– Miller posted the most impressive line of (career high) 24 pts, 5 reb, 3 ast, 3 blk.

– UK is 3-1 in the last four games, with Miller averaging 18 pts/gm. In the four games before that, UK went 1-3, with Miller averaging 6.5 pts/gm.

– Josh Harrellson posted another double digit rebounding game (12). He now averages 8.9 reb/gm.

– Knight scored 16 pts with 6 ast. Lamb dropped 14 pts. Both hit several momentum building shots, including four threes split between them. Also, Lamb continued to show why swishing the floater is the prettiest way to score a bucket.

– Eloy didn’t make me want to pull my hair out. He played 5 mins, in which he blocked a player that is 5’5”. Afterward, 5 teammates gave Vargas high fives.

– Only six players attempted field goals today, and the team shot a solid 51.7% fg (50% 3pt).

– Five of the six players who shot also attempted at least one free throw. The team went 9-15, missing a few down the stretch.

– UK won its 33rd straight game at home, staying undefeated at Rupp Arena under Calipari. UK also netted its 20th win of the season.

– Coach Cal won his 500th game tonight.

– The 8pt victory matches the -8 line set in favor of Kentucky earlier today. Ship the juice to the house.

Kentucky wins. Vegas wins. We all win. Go Cats!

Not 500 wins. As our good friend the Good Doctor pointed out, Calipari had to vacate two season. So it’s 500 with a footnote that Cal cheated.

I’d make the team watch Miller go after that rebound about 20 times. Great play! We would have killed Arkansas if everyone hustled like that for 40 min.

Oh, and Darius Miller was an absolute beast today. If he plays with that confidence everyday and every game then Kentucky will be a hard out in the tournament. I just really hope he can carry that confidence into next season. He always seems to play better towards the end of the season, and we all get excited about his potential for the next season. Then he comes out timid again. Darius just needs to decide that he’s going to get x amount of shots in offered, and he’s going to exploit mismatches. He did that to perfection today.

That’s the kind of leadership UK needs out of Miller to be successful the rest of the season. I hope he continues his inspired play throughout the tournament. The rest of the team will follow his lead.

Good write-up, but I am sort of sure that the 33 straight number is not in Rupp. Thinking that includes the one win at Freedom Hall against ND (considered a home game) and the number at Rupp is 32. I could be wrong.

Dicky V giving us some Love on Gameday, saying we will be a tough out in the torny on a neutral floor. And how bout them Vols. By the way, Dykes is much more entertaining to listen two when you’re not worried about the outcome of the game he’s calling.

We win out and UGA loses 1 more…we get 2nd place.

Drew was wrong the other day. If only UK and Vandy tie at 10-6, we will have a better record in the Sec East. – we get 2nd in the East. A three way tie at 10-6 and we get 3rd…

He is from the same high school as John Wall, and Wall actually recommended him to Calipari. He is a 4 star recruit and will likely be a UK target for the 2012 class.

Thank you Dick Vitale!! I’ve been saying the same thing to all my friends for two weeks now. This team may struggle on someone else’s home court, but I feel confident in them on a neutral court. And that’s where tournaments will be played. We won’t win the SEC tourney, but that’s because of having no bench. We’ll win two, and then run out of gas. In the NCAA, they only have to play two games per weekend. We can make it to the sweet sixteen, and MAYBE the elite eight. That’s where it will end. Remember, a neutral court is much different than a hostile court. Especially when you think about the BBN. We can make neutral courts into home courts. Maybe it’s up to us to help this team make a deep run!!!

Not been a big Miller fan as I thought he underachieved but he has been playing like a man lately. Today he was just unguardable against the gayturds. And Old School is lerking around in the background just waiting for Cal to slip up so he can get back to the anti-Cal propaganda. Point is they seem to be missing when we win. It’s obvious to me they post a lot when we loose.

    41) Living in Louisville I have to agree with those before me, them winning out is not best. All I hear after every loss is “what happened to UK?”. I’m sure this isn’t as bad in Lexington, but when you’re one of the few that attempts to spread the word and lives in this $h1t hole called Loserville, a win makes going to work Monday a lot easier. They make remarks, they taunt, they get their jabs in. The only thing I can say is “15”. That usually shuts them up, however they continue to come at me with UK’s record against Big East teams and I continue to repeat “15” in an attempt to shut them up. UL sucks, their fans suck, anything red sucks. We HAVE to go further in the tourney than UL or any other BE team, otherwise, keeping the tards at bay here in “the ville” will be difficult.

Good job Cats. Great Game for Miller. Just play then next game, work on getting better in practice, play the next game and in the end see where it takes you. Forget all the BS on boards, TV, Radio, & paper about SEC seed, NCAA seed, how far can you go and what you can’t do. It’s wasted energy. Just play!
