Daniel Orton Officially Not Coming Back

Earlier today, Daniel Orton told the Orlando Sentinel that he has signed a contract with the Orlando Magic.  While the terms of the contract were not available, the Sentinel notes that the 29th pick last year signed a three year contract worth just over 4 million, while KSR crush Mary Jo Perino notes that the average rookie contract is “usually three years, and for the pick the guaranteed amount is $1,778,300.”

Orton also has apparently finally signed with an agency, which makes me wonder if last nights apology was step number one on the ‘who wants to be a successful NBA player’ plan his agent, Ara Vartanian outlined for him.  Yes, that Ara Vartanian.  The same one who is an agent for Elijah Millsap.  The same Elijah Millsap that will be playing for the Detroit Pistons in the summer league.  Orton is in good hands.

(To his credit, he is also the agent for Elijah’s brother, Paul Millsap, who averaged 18 ppg for the Jazz these past playoffs.)

Now with both a professional contract and an agent, when asked about his availability to come back to Kentucky next year, Orton had only this to say.  “I can’t, mother ******!”
