We all have bad days. When I was in high school, I came into the Regional Tennis Tournament my Senior year as the #2 overall seed in doubles and drew a team of Swedish exchange students from Oneida Baptist. Little was known about this mysterious duo except they both had blonde hair and had defeated a team from Harlan, even after they were told that a “can of whoop ass is going to be opened up on you communists” at one point during the match (true story). Even though my team had a bye and was in perfect shape to cruise to the Finals and a second straight state tournament appearance, I played horribly and we ended up being shocked by the Swedish duo in three sets. I wanted another chance, but it was my last year in high school and all that was left of my sports career was Transylvania intramurals and consistently crushing the Turkey Hunter and Gabe Pendleton on the golf course.
I didnt get a second chance, but today Daniel Orton does. He takes the court at 1 pm versus the Utah Jazz with a chance to forget about yesterday’s “Chevy Chase-like” debut. The team he plays against starts Kosta Kofous down low, a chance to redeem himself on the post and potentially avoid another fight. Orton had a rough day yesterday and acknowledged it on Twitter. But the best bounce back and live to fight another day. I didnt have that chance against the Swedes from Oneida. Daniel does against the Greek from Ohio State. Go get em Orton, not just for yourself…but for liberty and the American way.
