In a follow up from a previous story, the always well groomed Alan Cutler reports that John Calipari has helped orchestrate the return of former player Dale Brown. Brown is the coach of Dillard University and has agreed to bring his team up to Rupp for an exhibition game against the Cats in early November.
Dillard U is a small, private college located in New Orleans, and yes, it was greatly affected by Hurricane Katrina. It has about 800 students and, unfortunately, sports blue and white official colors as well as the Bleu Devil mascot. Oy. Brown struggled last year as the team ended the season with a 4-23 record and next year’s squad shouldn’t be much of a struggle for the Wildcats.
As the Cut-man points out, Brown is battling the ever-present small school/small budget situation at DU. Combine that with the rebuilding costs after Katrina and the down-turn in the economy and the game against Kentucky takes on significantly more meaning for Dale’s Devils. This is just one more example of Coach Cal “getting it” as he helps out a Kentucky favorite who has reached out for assistance.
As Cutler says, “Good for Cal”. Darn right. Go Cats.
