With Mother’s Day on Sunday (which bears repeating… MOTHER’S DAY IS SUNDAY,) the father’s have gotten a lot of attention as of late. I would guess it’s easier to get a dad on the phone than it is the actual player, but whatever the reason, we have heard more from fathers in the past year than we have the kids. As is the usual with players dads, some of it is good, and some of it is bad. Over the past couple days, we have seen both cases.
-ZagsBlog cleared up some rumors that Brandon Knight would opt to go to Europe instead of play for Coach Cal yesterday, by going straight to the young mans father. Zags reports, “That’s not true,” Efrem Knight Brandon’s father, said Thursday morning by phone. “All that is is people trying to mess up Kentucky’s recruiting.” So there you have it, Efrem cements his sons commitment to Cal, and his commitment to being the dad with the coolest name for next years Cats, following in the tradition of Orestes Meeks and Larry Orton.
-Speaking of our old pal Larry, he told Alan Cutler today that A) he admired his mustache, and B) Daniel Orton will likely stay in the draft. While this doesn’t come as a surprise to, well, anyone at this point, it does further cement the Cats need for post players next year. Larry left open the possibility of a return, but inferred that it was only likely in the case of an injury during a workout.
So there you have it. Brandon Knight is still coming to Kentucky, and Daniel Orton is still leaving, per their fathers. The off season sure is exciting.
And just to meet the quota: Terrence Jones.
