Credit Where Credit is Due

“I don’t like you, Ron Burgundy. I pure straight hate you. But ******* do I respect you.” -Wes Mantooth

You don’t have to like the Louisville Cardinals.  In fact, I’d prefer you didn’t.  But you do have to appreciate a solid dunk, and holy crap did Chane Behanan have a monster one last night against DePaul.

While we were busy waxing Mississippi State and feeling bad for Rick Ray, the forward made anyone who saw feel bad for that poor defender.  Well done, Chane.  Now see if you can’t get your team to let you do that in the Round of 32.

Shouldn’t have been a charge since the defender’s feet were inside the circle

You guys are forgetting that the charge circle is for a help-defender. This guy was clearly not the help defender since he was the only guy within 30 feet. The correct call should have been a charge.

looked like a flagrant foul to me at least thats what i call knees to face, also would have dropkicked his ass for trying me like that maybe after that the refs will start calling the games like they should from then on. its basketball not football

Carrie Nichols knew exactly what she was doing when she put this video up. Her posts are usually lacking in interesting points and this was an easy way to get alot of clicks and comments without doing any work. Good job Carrie, mission accomplished. The dunk was called a charge so no credit deserved or given here.

Apparently, it was ruled a charge, and then the call was reversed, and it was ruled a blocking foul. It ended up being an “and one.” I didn’t know that you could even switch that call. Big East Refs are atrocious.

Corey I’m usually annoyed by the people who come on here just to tell you that you suck, but today you proved them right. Why the hell would we want to watch that stupid dunk? There have been plenty of great dunks all year by tons of college kids, why give this attention? Plus even though it should have been a blocking call since the kid was in the arc, it looked like a charge was called so that makes this even lamer.

Not understanding the promo code for Spring Game tickets.. Guess they got to serve the “Money” fans first. One might think they would want to sell as many tickets as possible being that UK football has sucked the past few years.. and they NEED butts in seats. Was excited about going.. would have been the first time ever to Commonwealth. Didn’t even mind paying processing fees to a Free event! But the whole “second class” feeling you get from seeing them being offered, but just not to you.. just ruined that excitement. You all enjoy!

I know your knowledge of how sports work is extremely limited but we don’t, EVER, like anything a rival has done. Seems absurd right? Why can’t we be mature and understanding like you? Obviously the ref called a CHARGE. The defender was partially outside the arc, so maybe it’s a legit call (I don’t know the rule).

The bigger clarification is: was the call indeed reversed? Who can verify?? I’ve never heard of a blocking foul reversed, or a charging foul reversed. Is that even possible?

Or is that just a troll above trying to spread disinformation?

  50. NotFirst
    10:10 am February 28, 2013 Permalink

Little bro has one good dunk per year, so I’ll give them their props. This call was indeed a charge and it was reversed — the officials went to the monitor and the defender was in the circle, so reversing it was the right call. I had not heard of block/charges being reversed via review before either, but it did. Those of you who suggest that the guy blocking was not the secondary defender clearly do not understand the rule, so please just let it go. I hate Louisville as much as any decent human being, but this was a monster dunk so props to that a-hole Chane.

I mean, it’s not like they have a snowball’s chance at the national championship or anything.

What dunk? The play was waived off for an offensive foul. It never happened.

  52. UKBlue
    10:19 am February 28, 2013 Permalink

The bar must be really low for dunks this year. A few more inches if the kid feet weren’t on the line, this would have been a nice charge. Behanan is beyond overrated & UL isn’t doing anything this year.

Corey needs to be let go, and KSR readers should get to punch whoever hired him in the face.

  53. Han
    10:23 am February 28, 2013 Permalink

If that’d been Archie, the ref would’ve called a charge even though the defender was inside the circle and leaned into the offensive player.

  55. Maxbps8
    10:53 am February 28, 2013 Permalink

Great dunk! Piss poor charge call. Seriously the refs in cbb need to go back to school. This was about as clear of a blocking call as it gets. The guys feet were almost entirely inside the arc. Anytime you see a ref make a very demonstrative call, you know his ego is in the way of him doing his job well.

  56. RealCatsFan
    10:55 am February 28, 2013 Permalink

I fully expect Behanan to put his hat in the NBA draft this year, since the draft is weak and it would be his best chance to get into the first round. Next year there will be a LOT more talent hitting the draft, so unless he has a monster year, this would be his best chance. Wouldn’t be shocked to see Russ Smith and Harrell do the same, and Dieng is as good as gone.

Almost All – Don’t be children. If you can’t acknowledge that that was a good dunk without saying “we don’t like Louisville!” then you are just the worst kind of fan. If you lower yourself to saying “we don’t ever give Louisville any credit,” then you’re essentially saying you’re worried about our prestige compared to theirs. A confident Kentucky fan can show respect, because we know we’re so far ahead. So grow up.

From the mouths of the refs concerning the semi-circle…

It has a 3 ft. radius and restricts “secondary” defenders from taking a charge
It starts at the backboard, so anyone behind the backboard can still take a charge
If any part of you is on the line, inside the line, or above the line, you are in the area. This makes it difference from out of bounds and 3pt situation where you can lean over.
On an odd man break (i.e. 2 on 1, 3 on 2) everyone is a secondary defender
On a rebound play, including going back up after a rebound, everyone is a primary defender, so the arc is meaningless
In a zone, everyone is usually a secondary defender. Even though a zone is designed to let someone go by and someone else take over, they are still a secondary defender
Even if there is a secondary defender in the area, an offensive player can get called for a foul if the lead with a knee, elbow or shoulder
