Commiserate With Matt On The Radio

navi

Nothing makes you feel better like hearing Matt Jones’ sultry voice after midnight on a Saturday night, go ahead, admit it.  Fortunately for you, you can check out his call in show right now on 840 WHAS in Louisville or you can stream it live on the internet here. Or you can be a man and call in.  Matt will be talking about The Time Out that Cal took home, Brandon Knight owning the state but not the game, and where this team goes from here.  It’s gonna be a late one, but if you’re like me, it’s not like you’re going to be able to sleep anyways.

Two tough losses this week. Proud of how the team came back, but we still don’t know how to execute at the end. Teams are really starting to take advantage of our lack of talent down low. Just keep plugging, get to 20 regular season wins, and just see where the chips fall this season. Help is on the way next year.

  4. Great Question
    12:15 am February 6, 2011 Permalink

What record would Cal have if he coached uofl’s roster and had all those injuries? I know Cal would never recruit poorly enough to have to actaully coach that team. But just from a pure coaching standpoint, would Cal have a better or worse record than 18-5. Honest answers please

Matt, what a stupid response to the uofl caller. Since when do we hang a banner for beating a depleted uofl squad?

Cal would have 10 wins and upteenth losses with ULs squad. Horrid game coach, and I bleed blue so it hurts me to say so much!!!

If Jones Knight or Lamb leave this year for the NBA I won’t consider them wildcats. Last years group at least acted like they wanted to win for Kentucky. These guys seem more concerned with raising their draft stock. All three should come back, but I’d be surprised if any of them do. Give their minutes to players that are more interested in playing for Kentucky than the NBA. Just watch any game and you can tell they aren’t trying as hard as last years group, or even Gillispie’s first team. This team has NO heart and NO leader. If they finish above 500 in Sec play it’d be a miracle.

We’re going to keep at least 1 of Knight, Jones and Lamb next season. Don’t put money on it, but don’t be surprised if it happens. Pray to Wodin.

    Three positives from this game:
    1) Jones did something besides hog the ball
    2) Knight was spectacular
    3) Vargas did something other than waste space and score points for the other team

Poor execution and bad rebounding killed UK in this game. The only consistent thing through UK’s road losses has been poor execution at the end of the game – that is why every game has been close. The talent is there, even Harrellson and Vargas hold their own against most teams and UK has the ability to put together spectacular runs to get back into games, but they just can’t deliver in the last 180 seconds when it is the most crucial.

Given that this is the common element, I have to say that it all comes back to the obvious: this year the team is not deep enough to be great.

Drew should have been micd up during the entire 6 days in Vegas.. we could all be laughing hystericaly rite now, and not just because uofl had to rally to beat a 0-10 team. sure we lost but that win was more embarrassing than our loss by a long shot.

Oh, and the other problem is certain guys on the team have no confidence or are suffering crises of confidence, even though they clearly have more to contribute to the team:
    1) Vargas – clearly has some talent but isn’t used to playing with the pace and physicality of the SEC.
    2) Liggins – still plays great defense, don’t know what’s wrong with him on offense. He can get by a lot of these guys or pull up like Miller does, but instead we see a lot of garbage from him on offense. He has enough talent to be more than a role player.
    3) Hood – hasn”t found a role for himself – Hood isn’t even a role player.
    4) Harrellson – man, what the heck has happened to Jorts in the last few games? He has passed up a ton of open jumpers. If he can still hit those shots like he used to, Jorts should have the green light to put some pressure on opposing big men to come out and guard him. Otherwise he is wasted on offense, and that is kind of a shame since he can’t be an everyman on defense given his physical limitations.

If this team is to be anything over the next 2 months, those guys have to start playing ball.

Until the, go ahead a keep your head up your anal cavity. Also, suck it Knight. You will take another loss when we play you in Lexington.

    From ESPN:
“We should probably also mention Ted Valentine’s late call on Kentucky forward Josh Harrelson. As Doug Gottlieb noted on ESPN’s College Basketball Final Saturday night, Valentine was on the opposite side of the floor when Florida guard Erving Walker tried to split a high screen double-team and ran into Harrelson and Kentucky forward DeAndre Liggins. The play looked like a clear tie-up and jump ball, but Valentine sprinted into the play and called a reach-in foul on Harrelson. It’s never fun to criticize referees; those guys have as tough a job (at least in terms of mental pressure and split-second demands) as anyone in the country. But Valentine looked wrong there, and his reputation as a referee who likes to be part of the show –“TV Teddy V” is a well-earned nickname –probably showed through on the Harrelson foul.”

it’s actually a mesmerizing thing to see the refs screw your team live in person. t.v it’s one thing, but to see the refs call flake fouls based on the emotion of the crowd is complete utter bullshit. every florida call was based on the crowd. I doubt uf wins in Rupp.

Sexn, I doubt ANYBODY wins in Rupp. We have a lethal combination of inexperienced but talented players who play with little to no heart until it’s too late, and experienced but untalented players who are no good when it counts.

    ON THE ROAD.

See, even without experience, the kids can feed off the home crowd. That can make up for a complete lack of heart.
