Matt – Thanks so much for personally getting the football stadium renovated – it was all you and your radio show. Do you think you can get Bill Belichik and 22 5-star recruits. You control the Kentucky Senate, UK athletics, and the entire BBN. You are so awesome! Seriously, do you have custom doors in your house to fit your head?

I knew I was in the friend zone after dropping off a Christmas card with a loving note to a girl I had a huge crush on and had been friends with. She called me a few days into Christmas break after we both had gone home from UK and she left a message saying “thank you, that was so sweet. I’ll talk to you later. Bye”. I called back (she didn’t answer), back again (she didn’t answer), and about 10 more times over the next few days. She never answered. Never called me back. I didn’t see her until school started back and she made a point she just wanted to be friends, even though I had already figured that out.

….is actually an architect. 🙂 Kid is now on homeland security lists, but he’s right to a degree about Rupp. The risers are too steep and shallow for Rupp to do a plush renovation. And if they do major renovations to the upper decks, and try to get skyboxes or better concourses, you’ll lose seating…a big no-no. To keep UK the gold standard, a new basketball arena with great seating (chairbacks) and sight lines, boxes, cool/hip/large concourses, nice screens & ribbon boards, etc., all the amenities and seating options for handicapped individuals, IS REALLY THE ONLY OPTION.

Renovating Rupp is like polishing a turd.

This UK football team still has more talent than any I can remember. I sat through Bill Curry going 1-10, Hal Mumme and his no-tackle cheating defense, the jerk known as Brent Pease, losses to Ohio, 49-0 beat downs at LSU and I sure as heck can wait another couple of years for Joker to get a chance to see his Freshmen and Sophomores through as a head coach. He broke the TN streak and the Spurrier streak as well as brought us Randall Cobb. Most of my favorite players over the last few years were guys he brought in personally. As far as I’m concerned those things bought him a LOT of time to figure this thing out.

Joker hasn’t shown to be remotely as good as Brooks. What’s the excuse for that?

People are using the facility issue as an excuse to deflect blame from Joker and the administration. UK has ALWAYS had an excuse during their downward cycles.

There was a time when UK’s football facilities were considered elite. I know this was the case after UK built the indoor facility in the early 1990’s under Curry. Obviously, this had little impact on UK’s fortunes.

Perhaps UK’s struggles are more than simply a lack of recruiting base or facilities and actually a result of bad luck and mismanagement similar to why the Cubs have gone over 100 yrs without a World Series appearance?

Friendzone from a female perspective. There was nothing worse than having to hurt a guy’s feelings who you cared about, but were not attracted to. My friends in law school and I had a theory that there’s at least some level of underlying sexual tension/attraction in all “Platonic” cross-gender friendships. The evidence for this is that you rarely see “Platonic” friends in which the woman is much better-looking than the man, or vice versa.

Plus, in small, Southern towns, it’s very difficult for married people to go out to eat alone with someone of the opposite gender without rumors of infidelity swirling.

I disagree 218. My wife told me she loved me because I didn’t put up with any BS like that. We have a very equal relationship, she has guys she is friends with and I have no problem with it. Likewise, I have girls I am friends with and she has no problem with it. It comes down to trust and honesty in my experience and I’ve been married several years now. Never do anything to jeopardize what you have though and every relationship is different I’m sure.

I don’t think it’s really about being worried about your partner, it’s that your concerned about that friend and what his or her intentions are. That “friend” might pull out a bag of tricks to win over your partner. You may very well trust your girlfriend or boyfriend, you just don’t know what intentions their “friend” has. You don’t want to be susceptible to a sneak attack by a “friend” of your partner.

Over the last 8 years I have had to go out to AZ a number of times for weeks and months at a time to take care of ill family members and my friends have pitched in to make sure my husband was doing ok. They have banded together to make sure he was eating enough (he is a cancer survivor) and keep his spirits up while I was gone. My friends would keep me posted on how he was doing because even though I talked to him every night I wanted another perspective on how he was getting on.

Mat, since you are now semi-serious about this gender/friend thing, it’s not that women don’t trust other women, it’s that they don’t truly trust men. So, within this scenario (like Ryan’s)men are now looked at as lap dogs for women, and men take it, which for me, is shame on us for being so immature, later.

252, I agree, but his only real mistake was BCG. Brooks – good hire, Joker – good hire, Calipari – good hire. That’s 75%, now he could screw that up majorly in the next couple of years with a bad football hire or a poor replacement for Cal should he leave us.

264, I disagree. Brooks’ staff didn’t recruit well the last two years he was there except for Joker. That’s why he got rid of a bunch of those coaches immediately since he can’t recruit as much as HC. Those guys had high star ratings but there was a reason we were recruiting them away from schools like IU and Vandy. Star ratings don’t matter = the cupboard was bare for younger players in the program. Brooks retired at the right time, saw the writing on the wall.

Gridiron cat you won’t get any argument from me about the problems running deeper than the coach. I’m completely on board with that. If we do make a change in coaches I think we need someone who will not energize the fan base but someone who will also demand better support from the administration including Barnhart and Capiluto. I think in one of Matt’s posts this week he mentioned that UK only puts 10.9% of what it makes in football back into the program. You will never be taken seriously with that kind of commitment.

286 – no argument from me on the starters for that team head bussa. The problems were depth which was as bad as it had been in 4 years. Injuries killed our 2007 run because we had no depth. It was a similar scenario in 2010 IMO. They had a lot of guys playing injured throughout the year because the backups for that position couldn’t cut it.
